Police Think Jussie Smollett Staged Crime Over His 'Empire' Salary
The Chicago Police Department just gave an explosive press conference to speak about the arrest of Jussie Smollett.
The Chicago PD said they believe Jussie actually staged what was first reported as a hate crime because he was “dissatisfied with his salary” on his show Empire.
A representative also said Jussie was a “troubled young man” who used “drastic and illegal tactics to gain attention.”
Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson also said, “Bogus police reports cause real harm. They do harm to every legitimate victim who’s in need of support by police.”
Police also confirmed they believe Jussie paid $3,500 to the two brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, to carry out the attack.
Watch a snippet of the press conference below.
"Empire actor Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career." Chicago Police Chief Eddie Johnson said. "Why would anyone, especially an African American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations?" https://t.co/MfyQuQi1uf pic.twitter.com/SZXL5Hka0c
