Fan Bingbing Views Her Tax Evasion Scandal as a 'Good Thing'

Fan Bingbing disappeared from the public eye for four months last year and it was later revealed that she was involved in a tax evasion scandal in China.

The Chinese actress was held under house arrest while tax authorities investigated her records. She was eventually fined $70 million.

“It may be a trough I encountered in my life or in my work, but this trough is actually a good thing,” Fan told The New York Times in a new interview. “It has made me calm down and think seriously about what I want to do in my future life.”

She added, “No one can have smooth sailing throughout the journey.”

Fan, best known to American audiences for her work in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Iron Man 3, will next be seen in the spy thriller 355 alongside Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Penelope Cruz, and Lupita Nyong’o.
