Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie Reveals Why She Self-Submitted for Her Emmy Nomination

Gwendoline Christie was nominated for a 2019 Emmy nomination for her work in Game of Thrones, and what many fans might not know is…she submitted herself for consideration when HBO did not.

The 40-year-old actress, who played Brienne of Tarth in the hit series, is revealing why she decided to submit herself when she found out HBO did not submit her name to be considered in the pool of actresses.

“It’s something I find hard to do, like everyone else, but I would like to be in charge of my own destiny,” Gwendoline told the LA Times. “And I would like to endeavor to give myself opportunities. Particularly when working very hard on something very special and you’ve pushed yourself beyond your limits.”

Gwendoline continued, “I checked that it wasn’t an inappropriate thing to do, and I was told it wasn’t. People submit themselves all the time. I truly never expected it to manifest in a nomination and I don’t think anybody else did either. But I just had to do it for me. And I had to do it as a testament to the character and what I feel she represents.”

Finally, Gwendoline Christie also reacted to her character being alive in the final episode.

“I could not believe that I made it all the way through. And I was in the end of the final episode. Brienne makes it through and has a life beyond. I found that incredibly positive and unexpected. And she gets a great last line,” she added
