Nicholas Hoult Talks Stripping Down on Screen & Filming Sex Scenes at 17

Nicholas Hoult is opening up about what it’s like to strip down on set with a crew of people around, plus how it felt to film sex scenes at the young age of 17.

The 30-year-old actor bares it all in the recent movie True History of the Kelly Gang and he shared the scene with a real-life horse.

“I guess this character is a very relaxed sexual predator or whatever, but it’s never comfortable being naked on set, around 15, 30 or 100 people that you don’t know,” Nicholas told GQ Hype.

Nicholas was told that they were unsure how the horse would react as it had never been inside before. He said, “In my mind, I’m like, ‘This pony just got lured in here with a carrot. I’m sitting here naked. It’s looking at me like I’m a tasty snack.’ I froze… I’d like to stop having to get naked at work.”

Back when he was only 17, Nicholas had to film sex scenes for his work in the teen drama Skins. This was years before the #MeToo movement and the introduction of intimacy coordinators.

“Back then you’re a kid doing a job, and I’d done it for a long time at that point, but it’s also a weird position to be put in,” he said. “Not that they were bad experiences or anything… It comes much more from, ‘Just get this done as quickly as possible so I can be comfortable again and carry on with the part of acting I like.’ A lot of acting is pretty terrifying.”
