Prince Harry Reportedly Inherited Princess Diana's Sapphire Ring, But Gave It To Prince William For Kate Middleton

Prince William famously gifted his mother, Princess Diana‘s sapphire engagement ring to Kate Middleton, when they got engaged in 2010.

However, it’s recently been revealed that it wasn’t actually his to give.

It turns out that Prince Harry inherited the piece of jewelry from Diana, who passed away in 1997 following a fatal car accident.

In the documentary, The Diana Story, which is on Amazon Prime, the Princess of Wales’ former butler Paul Burrell explained that Harry inherited the ring after Diana‘s passing, as he was allowed to select her favorite piece of jewelry from her collection.

Once William decided to propose to Kate, now the Duchess of Cambridge, Harry offered it to him.

“Harry said to him: ‘Wouldn’t it be fitting if she had mummy’s ring? Then one day that ring will be sat on the throne of England,’” Mr. Burrell shared.

He added that “Harry gave up his precious treasure. His one thing he kept from his mother, he gave to his brother. That’s selfless, kind and exactly who Diana was.”

Harry went on to design a custom ring for his now wife, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, in 2017.

Just recently, more details have been revealed about how Harry felt after Buckingham Palace refused to lay a wreath for him for Remembrance Day.
