Soko Brings Her Fashion A-Game to Sundance Film Festival with 7 Bold Looks

Soko stars in the upcoming fantastical feminist war film Mayday, which just premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Normally, this takes place in Park City, Utah, but the French singer/actress made numerous virtual appearances to promote the movie. Seven outfit changes for all of her interviews, in fact!

“Meeting [director Karen Cinorre] was what attracted me most about the film,” Soko told Just Jared. “There was this unshakable strength in this multi-hyphenate artist making her first feature. I love making movies with women. It’s always my favorite experience, especially becoming a mother and going back to work and bringing my baby to set in Croatia for two months. It felt like a blessing being surrounded by so much nurturing energy that made this transition from motherhood to working mom very easy for me.
It’s a very ambitious, poetic, feminist film. And I loved being Gert. She’s such a badass character-unapologetic, soft at heart, and an empathetic warrior.”

Mayday also stars Mia Goth, Grace Van Patten, Havana Rose Liu, Théodore Pellerin and Juliette Lewis. “I thought it was the most unique script I’ve ever read, and wanted to know so much more about it when I read it,” Grace has said. “I really fell in love with the power of sisterhood and friendship in there, and how it can get you through anything during a hard time.”

Here’s a brief synopsis of the film: An unusual storm is approaching, and it’s about to change everything for Ana (Grace Van Patten). After a short circuit at her workplace mysteriously transports her to an alternate world, she meets a crew of female soldiers (Soko, et al.) caught in an endless war. Along a strange and rugged coastline, men face the stark truth lurking behind damsels who appear to be in distress. Under the leadership of Marsha (Mia Goth), Ana trains as a sharpshooter and discovers a newfound freedom in this uninhibited sisterhood. She soon senses she may not be the ruthless killer they expect, though, and time is running out for her to find a path home.

Soko also has another film premiering at Sundance called The Blazing World. The official synopsis reads: Ever since Margaret (Carlson Young) was six years old, she has been haunted by the memory of watching her sister drown during an explosive fight between her parents. As a young woman, she slides further into her twisted inner life, ultimately finding herself on the brink of suicide. Through an epic journey down the smokiest and scariest corridors of her imagination, she tries to exorcise the demons pushing her closer and closer to the edge.

FYI: Soko‘s two striped looks are Sunnei, the suit is Gucci and the rest of the dresses are The Vampire’s Wife. She just made Vogue‘s Best Dressed List for the silver look!
