Tom Hanks‘ role in Big is one of his most beloved roles of all time…but he almost didn’t get the chance to play the role of Josh in the 1988 movie!

His co-star Elizabeth Perkins actually revealed another Oscar winner was supposed to take on the role instead.

“It fell apart because he had a scheduling conflict, and then they went to Tom Hanks. It’s like a totally different movie in my brain with Robert De Niro,” Elizabeth said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

“He was more moody. It was more of a — a little more of a horror movie. Robert De Niro wandering around the streets of New York,” Elizabeth added. “What Tom Hanks brought to it was so much lighter.”

And fans of the film are going to want to watch what Tom did a few years ago!
