Prince William Joins Queen Elizabeth in Scotland To Kick Off Royal Week Celebrations

Prince William smiles down at his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, as he joins her during her official visit to Scotland on Monday morning (June 28).

The 39-year-old Duke of Cambridge, who is known as the Earl of Strathearn in Scotland, watched on as the Queen inspected the Guard of Honour on the forecourt of Holyroodhouse Palace just before they were welcomed to Edinburgh by the Lord Provost.

The Queen was also presented with the keys of the city of Edinburgh, which is an ancient ceremony that sees the keys handed over symbolically to the monarch before being returned to the Lord Provost of Edinburgh.

Over the next week, Her Majesty will take on a variety of engagements in Scottish communities and “will visit businesses, charities and cultural institutions that highlight the pioneering work taking place to further community engagement, education, technology and efforts to combat climate change.”

Later this week, William be in attendance at the unveiling of a statue dedicated to his mother, the late Princess Diana. His estranged brother, Prince Harry, will also be there.

However, it’s not clear if William’s wife, Kate Middleton, will be there as well.
