LeBron James' Olympic Career 'Is Over,' USA Basketball Director Predicts

It looks like LeBron James is done with the Olympics.

During a new interview with ESPN, USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo thinks that the 36-year-old L.A. Lakers player won’t compete in the Olympics again.

“You know, Father Time takes its toll,” Jerry said. “…If you’re a human being, your body is built to go so long depending on what your sport is, and then it’s a downhill situation.”

Jerry continued, “LeBron made choices these last couple of Olympics not to participate because he’s got a lot of things going on in his life. So he put in his time, he made a contribution that is appreciated, but I think his time is over.”

LeBron has participated in three Summer Olympics games with Team USA. In 2004, LeBron won the bronze medal and then won two consecutive gold medals with the team in the 2008 and 2012 games.

Despite success with Team USA, LeBron chose not to participate in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro or in this summer’s games in Tokyo.

The 2021 Summer Olympics were postponed last year because of the pandemic and are now expected to take place starting on July 23.
