Oscars Best Picture Mistake in 2017 - What Went Wrong, What Happened Next?

One of the most memorable moments in Academy Awards history happened at last year’s show when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong winner for the biggest award of the night, Best Picture.

So, how did that moment actually happen and what happened next to everyone involved? Let’s take a look back at that moment in time!

Beatty and Dunaway announce the wrong winner

  • The former Bonnie and Clyde co-stars presented Best Picture together. When Warren opened up the envelope, he looked a little confused and ultimately let Faye announce the winner. She said La La Land and the team from that film came up on stage to accept the award.

Moonlight really won!

  • La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz came forward after some commotion to tell everyone, “There’s a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won Best Picture. This is not a joke… This is not a joke. Moonlight has won Best Picture.” He then showed the real card from the actual envelope to the crowd. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE!

Beatty explains what happened

  • Warren came on stage after the wrong winner was announced to explain what happened. “I want to tell you what happened,” Warren said. “I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny. Thank you very much. This is Moonlight, the best picture.” WATCH THE VIDEO HERE!

'Gary From Chicago' Reveals What Happened After Oscars 2017

Gary Coe, also known as “Gary from Chicago,” became a viral sensation at the 2017 Academy Awards and now he’s revealing what happened to him after the show.

Jimmy Kimmel surprised a Hollywood tour bus full of unsuspecting fans by having them walk into the Dolby Theatre in the middle of the Oscars ceremony.

Jimmy singled out a man named Gary and his fiancee Vicki. He even had Denzel Washington officiate an impromptu wedding ceremony during the show.

After the show, the media dug up Gary‘s story and how he had just been released from prison three days earlier after serving 20 years.

“It was great for my family and friends to see me on the Oscars,” he told THR. “But two days later, [the media] tried to make it something ugly.”

“It was horrible,” Gary said about the attention from the media. “I didn’t ask to be put on the Oscars. I was minding my own business, walking down the street. I was like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy — that’s America for you.’”

He added, “And how about the way it’s come down? Look what happened to Harvey Weinstein! Come to find out that the people up in really high places are the ones we should’ve been watching, and not some poor little black guy that’s been locked away in prison for the last 20 years!”

The Academy Will Still Use PwC Account Firm Despite Best Picture Mistake

The Academy just announced that they will continue to use accounting firm PwC, despite the Best Picture error at the Oscars ceremony earlier this year.

The organization’s board of governors decided to retain the services of the firm, which they have been working with since 1934.

“Heading into our 84th year working with PwC, a partnership that is important to the Academy, we’ve been unsparing in our assessment that the mistake made by representatives of the firm was unacceptable,” President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in a statement.

It was previously noted they will not welcome the two specific accounts involved in the mishap.

The Academy also revealed that safeguards will be introduced to avoid a repeat at next year’s show.

This includes adding a third balloting leader privy to the results seated in the control room, rehearsals for accountants and a ban on social media devices.

Brie Larson Speaks About Not Clapping for Casey Affleck at Oscars 2017

Brie Larson was asked about her reaction to Casey Affleck winning the Best Actor 2017 Academy Award for Manchester By the Sea.

The Internet noticed that when Brie presented Casey with the award, she stood with her arms by her side while he was given a standing ovation by the crowd.

“I think that whatever it was that I did onstage kind of spoke for itself,” Brie said to Vanity Fair. “I’ve said all that I need to say about that topic.”

While filming I’m Still Here, Casey was sued by two women for sexual harassment. The allegations were settled out of court and Casey has denied any wrong-doing.

Nicole Kidman Explains Her Awkward Clapping at Oscars 2017

Nicole Kidman is finally explaining her very awkward clapping at the 2017 Oscars, which went viral when she was captured on camera!

“Yes, I’m so glad you clarified that because it was really awkward! I was like, ‘Gosh, I want to clap, I don’t want to not be clapping,’ which would be worse, right? ‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’ So therefore, I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not my own so it was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it,” Nicole said on the Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O. “It’s like, is there not more important things to be focused on than the seal clap?”

So there you have it – Nicole‘s weird clapping was because of her ring!

Ryan Gosling & Justin Timberlake Had a 'Mickey Mouse Club' Reunion at the Oscars 2017

Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake had an adorable reunion.

While there was rightfully a lot of buzz about the Best Picture mix-up at the 2017 Oscars, there was definitely not enough attention given to the former Mickey Mouse Club stars as they spotted each other in the audience at the show.

The good friends, who were on The Mickey Mouse Club together from 1993 to 1995, were all smiles while catching up. Ryan‘s Oscars date, his sister Mandi, also spent some time reminiscing.

“We thought we were so cool when we were on The Mickey Mouse Club,” Justin has previously said. “Looking back on them, they weren’t as bad as I thought they were at the time. We stole a golf cart … we drove into MGM Studios, which is totally illegal by the way.”

Jimmy Kimmel Reveals Final Oscars Joke He Was Supposed to Do After Best Picture

Jimmy Kimmel had a big joke planned for the end of the 2017 Oscars, but the Best Picture fail got in the way and we never got to see what was in store.

“The plan was the Best Picture is announced; they make a speech,” Jimmy said on The Bill Simmons Podcast. “I was assuming the Best Picture was not going to be ‘Manchester by the Sea.’ And I said to Matt [Damon], ‘If it’s not ‘Manchester by the Sea,’ I’m gonna be sitting next to you. This will be my revenge for the Emmys.’”

“Because at the Emmys, he walked onstage after we lost our category. So I’d be sitting next to him, and it would start on me, and I’d start wrapping the show up. The camera would widen, we’d see Matt was sitting next to me, and I would say, ‘Wow, unbelievable, Casey won and Kenneth won and really only one person didn’t win tonight, and it’s you for this movie.’ It would have been a nice little button to the whole night,” Jimmy continued.
