J.K. Rowling had an emotional moment while remembering the late Harry Potter actor Alan Rickman in a recent tweet.

A fan tweeted, “Tonight in Italy they air ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow Part 2′. As always, I’m NOT ready to say goodbye to Severus Snape … Thank you @jk_rowling for this unique character and for convincing Alan Rickman to portray him – we had the perfect Severus Snape.”

J.K. replied, “In Harry Potter & the Cursed Child, Snape makes his first appearance with his back to the audience. At the dress rehearsal I saw him in his long black wig & my eyes filled with tears because, for a split second, my irrational heart believed when Snape turned round, I’d see Alan.”

The first Harry Potter film, Chris Columbus‘s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, hit theaters almost 18 years ago.

Since then – seven movies later – we have sadly lost some of the talented actors who brought some of our favorite characters to life in the franchise.

Fortunately, J.K. Rowling‘s magical world will live forever and *always* in our hearts thanks to their brilliant performances.

We’re taking a look back at some of the Harry Potter stars who have sadly died since filming.

New details about Alan Rickman‘s career are coming to light after a box of his personal letters were put up for auction.

The late actor, who died of cancer in 2016, kept a letter from Harry Potter producer David Heyman and it’s included in the collection.

In the letter, Heyman thanked Rickman for his work on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second film in the franchise.

“Thank you for making HP2 a success. I know, at times, you are frustrated but please know that you are an integral part of the films. And you are brilliant,” Heyman said.

Rickman wrote a note titled “Inside Snape’s Head” while filming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He said, “It is as if [director] David [Yates] has decided that this is not important in the scheme of things i.e. teen audience appeal.”

The collection of memorabilia is worth more than $1.2 million, according to The Independent.

We already knew that Emma Thompson will not be in the upcoming Love Actually short sequel and now she’s explaining why her character won’t make an appearance.

In the classic holiday movie, Emma‘s character is married to Alan Rickman‘s character. Sadly, Alan passed away last year and writer Richard Curtis said it would be too sad to revisit the character so soon.

“Richard wrote to me and said, ‘Darling we can’t write anything for you because of Alan‘ and I said, ‘No of course, it would be sad, too sad,’” Emma told PA.

“It’s too soon,” she added. “It’s absolutely right because it’s supposed to be for Comic Relief, but there isn’t much comic relief in the loss of our dear friend really only just over a year ago. We thought and thought but it just seemed wrong but to revisit the wonderful fun characters of Bill Nighy and Hugh Grant and Liam [Neeson] and all of that; that’s fantastic but obviously what would he have done?”

“Both of them would be in therapy by now and I would be working on some kind of ward. It was absolutely the right decision,” she added.

Everyone is so excited about the Love Actually reunion that is being filmed to benefit the Red Nose Day charity event, but sadly some of the beloved characters will not be featured in the special.

Alan Rickman sadly passed away over a year ago and a tribute to the late actor has not been planned, director Richard Curtis reportedly has said.

“You know, dealing with Alan is very complicated, so not really,” Richard told the Press Association (via Huffington Post) about including a tribute.

“We’re not doing everyone. We’re doing about two thirds of people,” he added. “[Emma Thompson] isn’t in it. She just can’t do it.”

Emma and Alan played a married couple whose marriage was strained by the end of the film.

Another character we won’t be seeing is Laura Linney‘s Sarah.

Kate Winslet is paying tribute to her late friend Alan Rickman in a moving piece she wrote for the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

The actors starred together in films like Sense and Sensibility in 1995 and A Little Chaos in 2015. Alan died in January 2016 at the age of 69 following a battle with cancer.

J.K. Rowling has revealed the secret piece of information she gave Alan Rickman during the filming of Harry Potter about his famous character Severus Snape.

Alan confided that J.K. had given him special insight about the character in a 2010 interview with RTE.

“She gave me one little piece of information, which I always said I would never share with anybody and never have, and never will,” Alan said. “It wasn’t a plot point, or crucial in any tangible way, but it was crucial to me as a piece of information that made me travel down that road rather than that one or that one or that one.”

When a fan asked J.K. about it on Twitter following Alan’s death, she finally shared the famous secret, writing, “I told Alan what lies behind the word ‘always.’”
