There are reportedly six front-runners in the game to become the next Jeopardy! host, according to new sources!

Alex Trebek, the longtime host of the popular quiz show, tragically passed away in November of 2020 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Since then, Jeopardy! producers have had guest hosts fill in, and some have gotten attention as possible choices for the permanent gig.

Alex Trebek‘s daughter Nicky Trebek is opening up about how she hasn’t watched an episode of Jeopardy! since her dad passed away late last year.

Nicky, who once worked on the show in production, opened up on CBS This Morning about her decision not to tune in.

“I have not watched, I have not watched one, my family haven’t watched any at all,” Nicky shared, speaking of her step siblings Emily and Matthew, and their mother, Jean.

She also shared that she ended her run on the show just days “after he passed before Thanksgiving.”

“To me it was his show. It was his show and it’s difficult for me to carry on in this show.”

Nicky also spoke on the program about continuing to work in the battle against pancreatic cancer.

Currently, Mehmet Oz, aka Dr. Oz, is the guest host on Jeopardy! and he hasn’t received a warm welcome from fans.

Alex Trebek‘s final episodes on Jeopardy! brought in big ratings for the trivia game show.

Deadline reports that the television program drew in 14 million viewers for his last episodes that were filmed just days before Alex‘s passing due to pancreatic cancer.

The game show had its most-watched week of the season to date with 11.1 million total viewers (Live+Same Day) and a 6.6 household rating, surging 29% from the previous week. It was the program’s most watched and highest rated week since the week of April 27, 2020.

After the final episodes aired, Ken Jennings took over the podium as the first guest host and is still doing it for this week.

Future guest hosts for the show have been announced and they include athlete Aaron Rodgers, newscasters Katie Couric and Bill Whitaker and actress Mayim Bialik.

More guest hosts are still set to be announced.

Alex Trebek‘s final episode of Jeopardy aired tonight and the final moments of the half-hour were even more heartbreaking than we expected.

The longtime host filmed his final episode of the quiz show just 10 days before his death and he clearly expected to be back at work to do more episodes.

“Thank you ladies and gentlemen for spending the time with us. We’ll see you again next week,” Alex said in the clip.

Right after the send-off, the show cut to a farewell tribute for Alex that featured clips of him from his 37 seasons with the show. The montage ended with a title card that said, “Dedicated to Alex Trebek. Forever in our hearts. Always our inspiration.”

Alex Trebek is being remembered by Jeopardy! in a moving way.

Just ahead of his final episode airing on Friday (January 8), the game show posted a touching video for the iconic host, who passed away at the beginning of November 2020 due to pancreatic cancer complications.

Throughout the video, you will see Alex from the start of his hosting of Jeopardy!, until the end.

Viewers will also see the many costumes he dressed up to deliver clues and him bringing his two youngest children, Matthew and Emily, to the set.

The segment, which will air at the end of the episode, fades to a black screen and white lettered message: “Dedicated to Alex Trebek: Forever in our hearts/Always our inspiration.”

Earlier this week, Alex delivered a powerful message about the COVID-19 pandemic at the start of his final week before his death.

Katie Couric is temporarily taking over as the host of Jeopardy.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Katie will serve as one of the first guest hosts after the final episodes featuring long-time emcee Alex Trebek finish airing this week.

Alex passed away in November after battling pancreatic cancer. He continued taping episodes after he announced his diagnosis in 2019, filming his final episode only 10 days before his death. Alex shared a message with fans about his future replacement in one of his final interviews.

Jeopardy‘s producers have stated that the show will feature guest-hosts until a permanent replacement has been chosen. Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings has also been booked to host episodes of the long-running trivia show. The LA Times says Katie and Sony Pictures Television, who produces Jeopardy, declined to comment on whether she would be interested in serving as Alex‘s long-term replacement.

Alex Trebek shared a moving message with the Jeopardy! audience on the first night of his final episodes.

The late host opened up about togetherness and navigating the pandemic together.

“You’ll recall that about a month ago, I asked all of you to take a moment to give thanks for all of the blessings that you enjoy in your lives,” he shared to the camera. “Now, today, a different kind of message. This is the season of giving. I know you want to be generous with your family, your friends, your loved ones.”

Alex went on, saying, “But today, I’d like you to go one step further. I’d like you to open up your hands and open up your hearts to those who are still suffering because of COVID-19.”

“People who are suffering through no fault of their own,” he adds. “We’re trying to build a gentler, kinder society and if we all pitch in — just a little bit — we’re gonna get there.”

Alex‘s final episodes are airing this week, with guest hosts taking over the week of January 11.

Earlier today, it was revealed that Alex had spent a week in the hospital just before hosting his final episodes.
