Alyssa Milano Reveals She Had Two Abortions in 1993

Alyssa Milano is opening up about the two abortions she had over 25 years ago.

During the latest episode of her podcast, Alyssa Milano: Sorry Not Sorry, the 46-year-old actress revealed that she had two abortion back in 1993, within months of one another, when she was in her early 20s.

“I knew at that time, I was not equipped to be a mother, and so I chose to have an abortion,” Alyssa shared. “I chose. It was my choice. And it was absolutely the right choice for me.”

Alyssa has been a vocal advocate in support of women’s health rights, slamming the new restrictive abortion laws that have gone into effect in some states.

“It was not an easy choice,” Alyssa continued. “It was not something I wanted, but it was something that I needed, like most health care is.”

Alyssa went on to share that she was in a serious relationship and on birth control the first time she found out she was pregnant.

“I was in love for the first time, in the breathless way you can only be in love when you are young,” Alyssa added. “It was huge, overwhelming even. It filled every part of living. And it was a joyful and exciting and powerful time in my life.”

Alyssa then shared she “was not ready to be a parent” at the time. Aside from her acting career, she was Accutane acne medicine – which can cause birth defects in pregnancy – and suffered from “sometimes crippling anxiety.”

All of these factors led Alyssa to make the “devastating” decision to end her pregnancy.

“It was devastating,” Alyssa recalled. “I was raised Catholic and was suddenly put in conflict with my faith. A faith I was coming to realize empowered only men to make every single decision about what was allowed and what was not allowed.”

Alyssa Milano has been married to husband Dave Bugliari for 10 years and has two kids Milo, 7, and Elizabeth, 4.

Alyssa Milano Announces Sex Strike, Evan Rachel Wood Expresses Issue with Idea

Alyssa Milano is responding to Georgia’s new abortion laws by announcing a sex strike, but not everyone is thrilled with her idea.

The new “heartbeat bill” signed into law in Georgia earlier this week makes it illegal to have an abortion after a heartbeat is detected, which is usually about six weeks into a pregnancy. Oftentimes, many women don’t even know they’re pregnant yet at this point.

“Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy,” Alyssa wrote on Twitter. “JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back. I’m calling for a #SexStrike. Pass it on.”

Evan Rachel Wood responded to Alyssa‘s tweet to express her issues with the idea, though she fully supports anyone’s right to express themselves through the strike. Many others have tweeted similar thoughts as well.

“I worry this feeds into the religious belief that sex is for pro creation and never for pleasure. This is in the minds of a lot of people supporting abortions bans. No sex until marriage and babies. Meanwhile me and the other queer ladies let out a huge sigh of relief,” she wrote. “But also. ITS YOUR BODY. Strike. Dont strike. The choice is yours babes. ✌🏻 and I support how you choose to express yourself all the way.”
