Andrew Lloyd Webber to Receive Experimental Coronavirus Vaccine

Andrew Lloyd Webber is volunteering to try a vaccine.

The 72-year-old award-winning composer announced that he will take part in an experimental study amid the search for a coronavirus vaccine in a message on Wednesday (August 12).

“I am excited that tomorrow I am going to be vaccinated for the Oxford Covid 19 trial. I’ll do anything to prove that theatres can re-open safely,” he said.

The University of Oxford has been developing an experimental vaccine called ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 and results have been promising so far, via the BBC.

Stage productions across the world have largely shuttered since March, and all productions on the Great White Way will be suspended through the rest of the year.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Says The 'Cats' Movie Was 'Ridiculous'

Andrew Lloyd Webber is telling everyone how he really feels about the movie adaption of Cats.

In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the famed composer and creator of the Broadway musical called it “ridiculous”.

“The problem with the film was that Tom Hooper [director] decided that he didn’t want anybody involved in it who was involved in the original show,” Andrew said. “The whole thing was ridiculous.”

Cats debuted in theaters in December 2019 and starred Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Jason Derulo, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Rebel Wilson and many more.

The film only made 73 million at the box office. The total budget for the film was $100 million to produce, plus an additional $100 million for global marketing and distribution fees.

Taylor also commented about the backlash of the film, and James regrets being part of the film as well.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Will Provide Live Commentary During 'Cats!' Broadcast for Charity

Andrew Lloyd Webber is going to provide commentary on Cats!

The 72-year-old acclaimed composer will provide live audio commentary during The Shows Must Go On!‘s broadcast of the 1998 stage production of Cats! to benefit The Actors Fund, a national human services organization working for stability and a safety net for everyone in performing arts and entertainment, the organization announced on Thursday (May 14) amid the pandemic.

The YouTube channel will offer fans two streaming options to view Cats!: the regular broadcast, and the broadcast with Andrew Lloyd Webber “providing personal insights and memories of the creation of Cats! which has become a worldwide musical phenomenon.”

It will begin on Friday (May 15) beginning at 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET. Fans can submit questions to the composer via Twitter using #ALWCats. Both streams will be available for free on YouTube for 48 hours, and will encourage viewer donations to The Actors Fund and other international organizations.

The 1998 production of Cats! starred Elaine Paige, the original Grizabella reprising her performance, and John Mills as Gus, the theater cat.

Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has been streaming all of his filmed stage musicals for free throughout the ongoing health crisis and the latest one is The Phantom of the Opera!

This musical is the longest-running show ever on Broadway and you can watch the full show from the comfort of your own home for 48 hours.

This filmed version is the 25th anniversary staging that took place at Royal Albert Hall in London back in 2011.

Broadway stars Ramin Karimloo, Sierra Boggess, and Hadley Fraser star as The Phantom, Christine, and Raoul, respectively.

You can stream the musical on The Shows Must Go On page through Sunday, April 19 at 2pm ET. The show is only available for 24 hours in the UK and Ireland due to rights issues.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Relaxes on the Beach on 'Cats' Opening Day

Andrew Lloyd Webber escaped to Barbados for some relaxation during the opening weekend of his new movie Cats.

The 71-year-old composer was spotted relaxing on the beach with his wife Madeleine Gurdon on Friday (December 20) in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Andrew was treated to a foot massage while laying in a lounge chair. Madeleine got up at one point to snap a photo of ALW being pampered.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is an EGOT winner who has won an Emmmy, four Grammys, one Oscar, and seven Tonys. He is known for writing the scores to the musicals Cats, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sunset Boulevard, and more.
