Brooklyn Nine-Nine is coming to an end.

The comedy series will not return until the 2021-22 broadcast season, and will end with a 10-episode order, THR reported Thursday (February 11).

The Andy Samberg cop show will end with its previously announced eighth season, consisting of 10 episodes — its lowest order ever. It will return at a date still to be determined during the 2021-22 broadcast season.

“Sources say NBC opted to delay Brooklyn‘s return in order to give the beloved and award-winning comedy a proper sendoff. NBC has already set its ‘midseason’ slate as part of a crowded broadcast calendar in April and has, pandemic challenges notwithstanding, the Olympics in the summer. Rather than bury it in August, NBC will use the Olympics to market the final season and give the show a big promotional push for an expected 2021-22 premiere,” the outlet reported.

The show also faced a significant challenge to reflect the times amid #BlackLivesMatter protests around the nation, as well as the pandemic, causing writers to reconsider how to write the series.

Here’s what Andy Samberg said about how the characters will examine their roles in the upcoming season.

Andy Samberg is opening up about the future of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine and how the show will handle police brutality storylines in the new season.

“The challenge is going to be being honest about what is going on in the world and not shying away from the fact that there are serious problems and also not punishing viewers who like our show and care about our characters,” the -year-old actor explained in a new interview with Variety.

Andy added that he believes that “our characters need to examine their roles in the world. They’re going to be forced to look in the mirror and see who they’re complicit with.”

He did add that the show hasn’t shied away from social issues.

“We’ve certainly never acted as if all police are innocent outside of our squad. In fact, I think we have a ton of episodes that are specifically about how there’s a lot of corruption and breaking protocol,” Andy added.

He goes on, “I think it’s important for us and for anyone watching our show to keep in mind if we’re looking for a half-hour comedy show to be the ones to solve this problem, we’re in trouble. Our job is pointing out that stuff isn’t getting done right and spreading the word that we’re (really) hopeful that it can get better.”

Earlier in the summer, the show revealed that they had scrapped the first episodes they had planned because of the police brutality issues surrounding the country.

The cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is giving back to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Andy Samberg, Melissa Fumero, Terry Crews and the rest of the cast teamed up with their showrunner, Dan Goor, to donate $100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network.

“The cast and showrunner of Brooklyn 99 condemn the murder of George Floyd and support the many people who are protesting police brutality nationally,” he wrote on Twitter. “Together we have made a $100,000 donation to the National Bail Fund Network. We encourage you to look up your local bail fund: the National Bail Fund Network is an organization that can lead you to them. #blacklivesmatter.”

Earlier that day, Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Rosa on the series, followed The Tick star Griffin Newman‘s lead in donating more month to the Community Justice Exchange.

Griffin called on actors who have played police officers to give money, and Stephanie answered the call. Both of them donated $11,000, and went on to urge more actors who have benefited from their roles portraying police officers to follow their lead and do the same.

“If you currently play a cop? If you make tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in residuals from playing a cop? I’ll let you do the math,” they said in their tweets.

Seth Meyers gave Andy Samberg a chance to resurrect one of his old cut Saturday Night Live sketches during a round of “Second Chance Theatre” on last night’s (February 4) Late Night!

The 41-year-old Brooklyn Nine-Nine star along with the help of John Mulaney, Kenan Thompson and some of the Late Night gang performed the never-before-aired SNL sketch called “Griff Banks the Sensitive Bully,” in which Andy played the titular character who instantly falls apart every time he attempts to bully his classmates and receives even the slightest amount of pushback in return.

“It was written by me and Colin Jost and Rob Klein and its sort of pulling from the ’80s and some ’90s film troupes of like the bully that’s like riding the nerd the whole movie,” Andy explained. “But then when the nerd stands up to the bully, the bully kind of caves and you’re like, yeah! go nerd!’”

“I’m a terrible bully. This isn’t even a varsity jacket, it’s My Little Pony!” Andy says during the sketch. “I’m not a bully, I’m just a gaping snorf!”

Also during his appearance, Andy hit the couch and talked about fatherhood, his supreme distaste for Seth’s dog, Frisbee, his record-breaking Sundance Film Festival deal, and the return of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Andy Samberg and Jimmy Fallon are taking us back in time!

The 41-year-old Brooklyn Nine-Nine star stopped by The Tonight Show on Monday (February 3) and took part in a hilarious skit with host Jimmy where they performed a funky song about their obsession with high kicking and the problems all of that kickin’ causes.

Andy and Jimmy dressed up in matching bell-bottomed jumpsuits to perform their new song “High Kickin’,” which included the lyrics: “High kickin’, high kickin’/ That’s kickin’ way up high/ High kickin’, high kickin’/ Our shoes gon’ touch the sky,” the two comedians sang.

Later on the show, Andy Samberg shared how his Palm Springs movie broke a Sundance Film Festival sales record by exactly 69 cents, and also talked about what’s in store for season seven of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Camila Mendes is stunning in a bold green top at the premiere of her new movie, Palm Springs, during the 2020 Sundance Film Festival held at Library Center Theater over the weekend in Park City, Utah.

The 25-year-old actress joined her co-stars Andy Samberg, Meredith Hagner, Cristin Milioti, and Tyler Hoechlin for the red carpet event.

Earlier over the weekend, Camila, Cristin and Andy were seen at the IMDb Studio promoting the film.

Palm Springs centers on carefree Nyles and reluctant maid of honor Sarah, who have a chance encounter at a Palm Springs wedding, and things get complicated as they are unable to escape the venue, themselves, or each other.

FYI: Camila wore a Chinti & Parker top, Maje pants and Kendra Scott earrings for the premiere. She also wore a tan Sandro coat for the IMDB Studio appearance with Veronica Beard pants and Schutz boots.
