Will Lily Cause a Divide Between the Salvatore Brothers on 'The Vampire Diaries'? Ian Somerhalder & Paul Wesley Weigh In!

When The Vampire Diaries return tonight, we’ll find that the Salvatore brothers are once again at odds.

With Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) mother Lily (Annie Wersching) back in town with her Heretics in tow, there’s a bit of a divide on how to handle the situation.

“He’s no longer the petulant child. He’s just pissed. She’s really coming in and took over the town,” Ian told us during a recent visit to set. “This is not good. None of this is good at all, other than it’s going to give Damon something to do. His house is gone, his town is gone, and justly so. He’s angry. He’s literally furious. His girl is gone, his brother has been forced to kowtow to what these Heretics deem as ordinance, and people are dying left and right. He’s pissed and he’s going to retaliate.”

Where does this leave Stefan and Damon’s relationship?

“I think she does cause a divide because Stefan strikes a deal with her and Damon’s not happy about that,” Paul said. “Stefan has a history with one of the Heretics, and as a result of that, he’s a bit torn. He’s a little more empathetic.”

Still, Ian says they will eventually get on the same page. “They are getting closer. They are forced to. Damon’s really pissed at him initially. They are forced to be a team. They have to be. Stefan is the only family he has.”

Meanwhile, Lily is just trying to keep the peace and get her way.

“She’s not necessarily a villain, but she is in the sense that the boys want one thing and she wants something different, so they kind of clash in that way,” Annie said.

She added, “I think it’s interesting because the boys are very much like her, but both in separate ways. She and Stefan sort of connect in the way that they both have this deeper, darker ripper side. And I think also, her relationship with Stefan is…he’s her baby. Whereas Damon is a little more in her face.”

The Vampire Diaries premieres TONIGHT, October 8 @ 8PM on The CW.

Ian Somerhalder & 'The Vampire Diaries' Cast Give Their Characters Advice Heading into Season Seven (JJ Interview)

The town of Mystic Falls is seemingly under new leadership in the upcoming seventh season of The Vampire Diaries, and every character is faced with new challenges.

JustJared.com recently caught up with stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Candice King, Kat Graham, Michael Malarkey, and Annie Wersching on set in Atlanta, Ga.

We asked each actor to give their characters one piece of advice for season seven. Check out what they said:

Ian on Damon: “It’s impossible. You can’t talk sense into Damon Salvatore. He’s 174 years old. He makes awful decisions based on his heart and his own selfishness. You can’t reason with someone like that. I wouldn’t even waste time giving him advice because he wouldn’t listen.”

Candice on Caroline: “If this was the same question at the end of season six, I’d say, ‘Oh, Caroline’s totally got it figured out right now. She’s on the right track. She’s got a great perspective on her life, and what she needs, and who she is.’ And then coming into season seven, I might be like, ‘Oh, girl. We need to have some talks. We need to sit down with a couple glasses of wine.’”

Annie on Lily: “Trust no one. I think she sort of leads with her heart a lot and wants to believe that people have good intentions, and that loyalty is loyalty, and you don’t go back on that. But…I would tell her to run from Mystic Falls (laughs).”

The Vampire Diaries premieres on Thursday, October 8 @ 8PM on The CW!
