Barack Obama's Family Matriarch, Sarah Obama, Dies at 99

Former President Barack Obama‘s grandmother, Sarah Ogwel Onyango Obama, has passed away at the age of 99.

She had been hospitalized at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital in Kisumu, Kenya, and passed on Monday morning (March 29).

“She died this morning. We are devastated,” her daughter, Marsat Onyango, confirmed (via ABC).

“Mama was sick with normal diseases she did not die of COVID-19,” a family spokesman added.

Sarah Obama was the second wife of former President Obama’s grandfather and she helped raise his father, Barack Obama, Sr. The former President affectionately referred to her as “granny” in his book “Dreams from My Father.” She attended his inauguration in 2009.

Michelle Obama is taking a playful jab at Barack Obama.

The former First Lady made a virtual appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday (March 16).

During her appearance, Michelle spoke about having her kids back at home learning virtually, and Ellen found out if they’re playing beer pong to make it feel like college.

She also spoke about former President Obama, and how he feels about turning 60 years old. She also amusingly clarified why he’s been telling people she’s a competitive bike rider. Plus, she talked about how she felt at this year’s presidential inauguration and her thoughts on President Biden’s leadership.

The two also discussed her new Netflix series Waffles + Mochi, and her Pass the Love campaign with Partnership for a Healthier America, raising funds to distribute a million meals to families in need across the country.

Plus, she showed off some items around her house during a game of “Drawer Dash,” raising $50,000 for Partnership for a Healthier America thanks to Triscuit. She also revealed what she took from the White House, what she’s been making in quarantine, and something of former President Obama’s that she wishes she could throw away!

President Obama just participated in something with all the other living former presidents, except for one.

Every Living Former President, Except Donald Trump, Participates in Coronavirus Vaccine Campaign

Every living former President, except for Donald Trump, including Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama teamed up for a campaign urging Americans to get the coronavirus vaccine. Their respective first ladies including Rosalynn Carter, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama, were also featured in the campaign.

In the video, Bush can be heard saying it will “soon be available to everyone,” with Obama saying it “will protect you and those you love from this dangerous and deadly disease.”

The pandemic has claimed the lives of over 500,000 Americans since it started last March. We’re on the one year anniversary that the deadly virus caused mass lockdowns across the country.

'Handmaid's Tale' Actor O-T Fagbenle to Play Barack Obama in Showtime's 'The First Lady'

Showtime’s The First Lady has found its Barack Obama!

O-T Fagbenle actor will be playing the 44th president opposite Viola Davis as Michelle Obama in the upcoming series, Entertainment Tonight confirms.

The 41-year-old actor is best known for playing Luke Bankole in The Handmaid’s Tale. He also played Frank on HBO’s Looking and will be appearing in the upcoming Marvel movie Black Widow.

Showtime describes The First Lady, which will be directed and executive produced by Susanne Bier, as “a revelatory reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House.”

“In the East Wing of the White House, many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic First Ladies,” Showtime says. “This series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of three unique, enigmatic women, tracing their journeys to Washington through an enlightening intimacy.”

It has already been announced that Michelle Pfeiffer will be playing Betty Ford and Gillian Anderson will be playing Eleanor Roosebelt.

The First Lady cast also includes Aaron Eckhart, Judy Greer, Jayme Lawson, Kristine Froseth, and Rhys Wakefield.

Barack Obama & Bruce Springsteen Launch 'Renegades' Podcast Together on Spotify

Bruce Springsteen is teaming up for a Spotify podcast with former President Barack Obama.

Announced today, Spotify revealed that the duo will sit down for a wide range of topics on the eight episode series, titled “Renegades: Born in the USA”.

Barack and Bruce first met on the campaign trail in 2008 and have “formed a deep friendship since”, according to a release, and on the podcast they will be talking about their hometowns and role models, modern manhood, and the divided state of America today and how we can all move forward together.

“On the surface, Bruce and I don’t have a lot in common,” Barack shares in the introduction. “But over the years, what we’ve found is that we’ve got a shared sensibility — about work, about family and about America.”

He added, “In our own ways, Bruce and I have been on parallel journeys trying to understand this country that’s given us both so much. Trying to chronicle the stories of its people. Looking for a way to connect our own individual searches for meaning and truth and community with the larger story of America.”

After 29 years of marriage, Barack Obama is proving he’s still crazy about wife Michelle.

The former President of the United States opened up about what he thought of Michelle‘s look that she wore to the Presidential Inauguration last month for Joe Biden.

“I don’t know what it is about y’all, with Michelle and her belts,” Barack said after being asked his opinion on the iconic look during a virtual book club for his memoir. “I asked Michelle about it at dinner the other night. I said, ‘Listen baby, you are gorgeous. You know, I understand completely why you are a fashion icon.’ But, I said, ‘Was your hair different? Because it didn’t look that different.’”

However, despite him not getting why her look was amazing, he agreed that “I don’t have an answer other than just knowing she looks good and looks better than me. I understand that.”

Michelle wore a Sergio Hudson look, the same designer as new Vice President Kamala Harris.
