'Lion King' Follow Up Movie In the Works, Director Barry Jenkins Confirms!

Oscar winner Barry Jenkins is set to direct a follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster The Lion King. He confirmed the news on his Twitter account.

There is no details about the film, and some sites are calling it a “prequel” while some sites are labeling the film as a “sequel.”

Deadline reports that the new film will continue with the photo-realistic technology used in the 2019 film, and “the story will further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa’s origin story.”

The 2019 film starred Donald Glover (Simba) and Beyonce (Nala), Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner (Zazu, Pumbaa and Timon), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), Alfre Woodard (Sarabi), Eric André, Florence Kasumba and Keegan-Michael Key (hyenas Azizi, Shenzi and Kamari), JD McCrary (Young Simba), and Shahadi Wright Joseph (Young Nala).

If you missed it, one of the stars of the movie, John Oliver, confirmed a fan theory about Beyonce with regard to The Lion King promo!

Natalie Portman & Benjamin Millepied Couple Up for Dance Project Gala 2019

Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied pose together on the red carpet as they arrive at the 2019 Dance Project Gala on Saturday evening (October 19) at Hauser & Wirth in Los Angeles.

The 38-year-old Oscar winner looked pretty in a gray, sheer dress while the 42-year-old French dancer and choreographer sported a black suit for the event.

Other stars in attendance included LL Cool J, Andie MacDowell, and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins.

Benjamin hosts the event annual to raise funds for his dance project. Natalie served as a co-chair for this year’s gala.

KiKi Layne & Regina King Hit the Blue Carpet at Spirit Awards 2019

KiKi Layne wows in white as she arrives a at the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon (February 23) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The 27-year-old actress hit the blue carpet alongside Regina King as they stepped out to represent their film If Beale Street Could Talk.

Also in attendance was their director Barry Jenkins and co-star Brian Tyree Henry.

If Beale Street Could Talk is nominated for three awards at the show including Best Feature.

Regina King Is Pretty in Pink for BAFTAs 2019!

Regina King looks lovely on the red carpet at the 2019 EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday (February 10) at Royal Albert Hall in London, England.

The 48-year-old actress was joined at the event by Barry Jenkins, the writer and director of her movie If Beale Street Could Talk.

Mahershala Ali, Glenn Close, & Viggo Mortensen Hit AARP's Movies for Grownups Awards Red Carpet

Mahershala Ali, Glenn Close, and Viggo Mortensen team up for the 2019 AARP The Magazine’s Movies For Grownups Awards!

The 44-year-old True Detective actor, the 71-year-old The Wife actress, and the 60-year-old Green Book star stepped out for the event held at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel on Monday (February 4) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Glenn is nominated for Best Actress, and Viggo is up for Best Actor for their aforementioned films.

They were joined by Best Director/Best Screenwriter nominee Peter Farrelly for Green Book, Best Director nominee Spike Lee for BlacKkKlansman, Best Supporting Actor nominee Richard E. Grant for Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and Best Supporting Actress nominee Blythe Danner for What They Had.

Also in attendance were Topher Grace, Barry Jenkins, Jane Seymour, Elizabeth Chomko, Linda Cardellini, Bo Welch, Catherine O’Hara, John DeLuca, Rob Marshall, Henry Mortensen, Edward James Olmos, Diane Warren, and Frances Fisher.

The event, hosted by Martin Short, honors films by and for people 50 or older. It will be televised on PBS on February 15 at 9 p.m. (check local listings) and will stream starting February 16 on pbs.org/gperf.

Brad Pitt hosts a screening of If Beale Street Could Talk to honor director Barry Jenkins on Saturday (January 12) in Los Angeles.

Also in attendance were many members of the cast including KiKi Layne, Stephan James, Brian Tyree Henry, Finn Whittrock, and more. Timothee Chalamet was also in attendance to show his support!
