Who Is 'Parasite' Director Bong Joon-ho's Translator? Meet Sharon Choi!

Parasite director Bong Joon-ho has been accompanied by an translator each time he hit the stage this awards season and she’s an aspiring director named Sharon Choi!

The 25-year-old translator and future director has helped relay all of Bong‘s speeches as he accepts awards at various ceremonies and even accompanied him to television shows.

Sharon says it has all been a great experience but no matter how many awards Parasite wins, she’s always “super anxious!”

“She’s also a great filmmaker!” Bong told THR.

We hope that one day we get to see a film directed by Sharon as well!

'Parasite' Wins Best Picture at Oscars 2020, Makes History as First Foreign Language Film to Win

Parasite has made history as the first movie not in the English language to win Best Picture at the Oscars!

The movie won four awards in total at the 2020 Academy Awards on Sunday (February 9) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Bong Joon-ho, the director and co-writer of the movie, won all four of the awards – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.

The other nominees in the Best Picture category this year were Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Parasite’s Bong Joon-ho Wins Best Director, Pays Tribute to Fellow Nominees

Bong Joon-ho continues to make history at the 2020 Academy Awards!

The Korean director took home the award for Best Director at the event at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

This is Bong‘s third award after also winning Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. If the film also wins Best Picture, he’ll take home all four awards he was nominated for this evening!

Parasite is the first movie from South Korea to win in these categories at the Oscars.

The other nominees for Best Director were The Irishman‘s Martin Scorsese, Joker‘s Todd Phillips, 1917‘s Sam Mendes, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s Quentin Tarantino.

During his acceptance speech, Bong paid tribute to his fellow nominees, specifically singling out Scorsese and Tarantino for inspiring him while he was coming up in the industry.

Parasite takes home the award for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Academy Awards!

The Korean film also won for Best Original Screenplay at the event held on Sunday (February 9) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Director/writer Bong Joon-ho and writer Han Jin-won took the stage to accept the honor, marking South Korea’s first Oscar.

“Writing a script is always such a lonely process,” Bong said. “We never write to represent our country. But this is very personal. I thank all the actors who are here with me today for bringing this film to life.”

Bong Joon-ho & 'Parasite' Cast Walk the Oscars Red Carpet!

The cast of Parasite has arrived at the 2020 Academy Awards on Sunday (February 9) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Director Bong Joon-ho joined cast members Choi Woo-shik, Kang-Ho Song, Lee Sun Gyun, Park So-dam, Cho Yeo-jeong, Lee Jeong-eun, Jang Hye-jin, and Park Myung-hoon at the event.

Parasite is up for six awards tonight – Best Picture, Best Director for Bong, Best Original Screenplay, Best International Feature Film, Best Production Design, and Best Film Editing.

A few weeks ago, Parasite became the first foreign film to win the award for Best Cast at the SAG Awards.

Hollywood Celebrates the 'Parasite' Cast at Pre-Oscars Party!

Parasite is one of the most-nominated movies at this weekend’s Oscars and Hollywood stars gathered to celebrate the film on Friday night (February 7) at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

Director and co-writer Bong Joon-ho and cast members Song Kang-Ho, Lee Jeong-eun, and Chang Hyae-jin were all in attendance at Vanity Fair and Saint Laurent‘s toast to Parasite.

Some of the Hollywood stars that stepped out for the event included Demi Moore and daughter Rumer Willis, Amber Heard with girlfriend Bianca Butti, Sylvia Hoeks, Kate Bosworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Karl Glusman, cute couple Joe Keery and Maika Monroe, Justice Smith, Olivia Wilde, and Grammy winner Lil Nas X.

Parasite is nominated for six Oscars and it’s pretty much guaranteed to walk away with a minimum of one award. See the full list of nominations!

Jojo Rabbit's Taika Waititi & Parasite's Bong Joon-ho Win Top Prizes at WGA Awards 2020!

Taika Waititi and Bong Joon-ho pose together with their awards while backstage at the 2020 Writers Guild of America Awards on Saturday (February 1) at Edison Ballroom in New York City.

Taika won the Best Adapted Screenplay award for Jojo Rabbit while Bong won the Best Original Screenplay award for Parasite. They’re now the favorites to the win the Oscars as well!

Also in the Best Adapted Screenplay category were Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Steven Zaillian for The Irishman, Todd Phillips and Scott Silver for Joker, and Greta Gerwig for Little Women.

Also in the Best Original Screenplay category were Sam Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns for 1917, Emily Halpern & Sarah Haskins and Susanna Fogel and Katie Silberman for Booksmart, Rian Johnson for Knives Out, and Noah Baumbach for Marriage Story.

Greta, Noah, Rian, and Katie were all at the east coast ceremony while Micah, Noah, and Steven attended the west coast ceremony. Kevin Bacon presented both awards in NY.
