Bruno Mars Addresses Cultural Appropriation Claims

Bruno Mars is speaking out about accusations of cultural appropriation.

The Grammy-winning artist responded to those who have claimed he profits off of black culture in a new Breakfast Club interview alongside “Leave the Door Open” collaborator Anderson .Paak.

Host Charlamagne the God told Bruno, “People love to accuse you of being a cultural thief, which I find interesting because you are a person of color. What would you say to those people?”

“I would say: You can’t look at an interview, you can’t find an interview where I’m not talking about the entertainers that’ve come before me,” Bruno responded. “And the only reason why I’m here is because of James Brown, is because of Prince, Michael [Jackson]—that’s the only reason why I’m here,” Bruno said.

“I’m growing up as a kid, watching Bobby Brown [and] saying, ‘OK, if that’s what it takes to make it, then I’ve got to learn how to do the running man, I’ve got to learn how to do the moon walk.’ That’s it. And this music comes from love, and if you can’t hear that, then I don’t know what to tell you.”

When asked if he’s ever frustrated by the criticism, Bruno replied, “What is the point if us, as musicians, can’t learn from the guys that’ve come before us? What did they do?”

“It comes with the gig,” he continued. “And there’s real merit to what people are saying about Black entertainers not getting their flowers, and I’m championing with that, I’m with that … I understand, but it’s just Twitter.”

Last year it was announced that Bruno is set to star in a new Disney movie featuring original music!

Rush Limbaugh Says He Doesn't Believe In The Notion of 'White Privilege'

Rush Limbaugh full heartedly believes that there is nothing true about what white privilege is.

During his interview with Charlamagne tha God on The Breakfast Club, 69-year-old political commentator says that he doesn’t buy into the construct of it.

“I think that’s a liberal, political construct right along the lines of political correctness, it’s designed to intimidate and get people to shut up and admit they’re guilty of doing things they haven’t done,” he shared. “I don’t have any white privilege.”

Charlamagne shot back, “You’re being delusional.”

“I’m not denying that there are certain individuals out there that think they are better than other people. But structurally, institutionally, white supremacy — that’s a construct,” Rush added.

While the two sparred on if white privilege did exist between them, the two did agree that they were both outraged over the death of George Floyd.

“What happened to George Floyd sickened me,” Rush said. “I wanted to reach out and tell you all this. I wanted to make sure you have no doubt, and I’m not the only American who feels that way, the senselessness of it.”

These other celebrities have acknowledged that they do believe white privilege is a real thing and are vowing to do something about it.

The 28-year-old “Perfect” singer shared his thoughts during an interview with Charlamagne tha God on Tuesday (May 28).

“This project actually started with one idea I had which was — you remember ‘Lady Marmalade,’ right?” Ed said while discussing his fourth studio album, No.6 Collaborations Project. “This is such a silly idea — I had an idea of doing that, like you could get Bruno [Mars], [Justin] Bieber, and me on a record, how fun would that be?”

“The first person I rung was Bruno and he was just like, ‘Let’s just do a song together, just us,’ and that’s how it happened,” Ed continued. “So then I did a song with Bruno and I did a song with Bieber and these individual songs started happening and then it turned into a project … It was a really good experience putting the record together.”

Charlamagne Tha God Explains on 'The Late Show' Why He Cancelled on Kanye West

Charlamagne Tha God stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night (October 23) and revealed why he decided to cancel a public event with Kanye West.

“Me and Kanye have a relationship,” the 40-year-old radio host and author explained to Stephen. “Not as close as him and Trump, but we have a relationship. Every interview that he’s done over the past couple of years, including the interview I did with him earlier this year, he’s always talking about his mental health. He’s always talking about being bipolar; being on medication. I felt like everybody was bypassing that conversation.”

Charlamagne were scheduled for a New York Times Talk to discuss their battles with mental health. The talk, which was promoting Charlamagne‘s new book, Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me, was canceled shortly after Kanye‘s last visit to the White House.

“When I saw him in the White House he said he wasn’t on his meds, he got misdiagnosed, and it was sleep deprivation,” Charlamagne added. “So I was just like, ‘I think he needs to figure that out.’ What I’m trying to do, which is elevate the conversation about mental health in the black community and trying to eradicate the stigma around mental health, I just didn’t think it would be a good conversation. It’d be a distraction.”
