Lady A Arrives at ACM Awards 2021 to Perform 'Like a Lady'

Lady A is mixing things up for the 2021 ACM Awards performance!

Instead of performing inside one of the venues for the awards show airing on Sunday (April 18), the country music band decided to take things outside, performing on a waterfront stage at the Bridge Building in Nashville, Tenn.

For their performance, Lady A – consisting of members Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood – performed their latest single “Like a Lady.”

In a recent interview, Lady A, which was formerly known as Lady Antebellum, explained why it took so long for them to change the band’s name.

Lady A was only up for one award this year, Group of the Year. They ended up losing to Old Dominion.

Lady A Members Talk Name Change, Explain Why It Took So Long

The members of the group Lady A, which was formerly known as Lady Antebellum, are speaking out about the name change and why it took so long to drop “antebellum.”

Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood, and Charles Kelley made an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show on Monday (December 21) and they discussed the name change, six months after they decided to do it.

“The heart of our decision still rings true today as much as it did back in June when we made this announcement,” Hillary said. “I mean, we want our music, and our live shows and, you know, anything that we’re a part of, for everyone to feel welcome and invited. And we realized, you know, over the summer I think not touring and watching just this movement happen that is so needed in this country and around the world, we started to see what our part was, what part of our first steps and making a difference could be. And so our name changing was the first step…but you never know how things are going to happen and we never saw that coming.”

Lady A Drops Out of CMA Awards 2020 One Hour Before Show After COVID-19 Exposure

Lady A, the country music band formerly known as Lady Antebellum, dropped out of the 2020 CMA Awards just one hour before the show was set to begin.

The group was scheduled to perform the song “Beers and Sunshine” with Darius Rucker during the event and they’re also nominated for Vocal Group of the Year. Group member Hillary Scott was going to perform alongside Thomas Rhett and others.

“Taking a look back at last year’s CMA Awards and all the fun that we have every year getting to hang out with our country music family! Sadly, one of our immediate family members has just tested positive for COVID-19 this week. So far, the three of us continue to test negative, and out of caution and love for everyone involved with the CMAs, we’ve decided to stay home from the awards tonight,” the group said on Twitter.

They added, “We’re bummed that we won’t be able to perform with Darius Rucker and Thomas Rhett, but luckily Charles already taped his performance with Carly Pearce so you will still be seeing him take the stage! We’ll be cheering on our friends at home like the rest of y’all! Stay safe out there.”

Lee Brice tested positive for coronavirus this weekend and he had to drop our of his performance with Carly Pearce. Group member Charles is replacing him and he already taped the performance.

Lady Antebellum Sadly Announces They've Cancelled Their Ocean Tour

Lady Antebellum will unfortunately not be hitting the road for their Ocean 2020 tour this year.

Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley made the difficult decision to cancel their upcoming tour, with supporting acts Maddie and Tae and Jake Owen, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Out of respect and love for our fans, crews and families, we’ve made the very difficult decision to not move forward with the #Ocean2020Tour this summer with @JakeOwenOfficial and @MaddieAndTae,” the band revealed on their social media this morning. “This decision breaks our hearts but the health and well-being of those we love is our first priority.”

Hillary, Dave and Charles continued, “We dream about the day we can step back on stage, see all your faces and hear all of your voices singing back to us. Y’all are the reason we do what we do and we find peace knowing that it will be even more special once we get through this together – and we will.”

“While we don’t have future plans to share just yet, we are working with our team around the clock to figure out when and how we can safely get on the road to see all of you.”

Those who had purchased tickets for Lady Antebellum‘s Ocean tour will be emailed about refund options.

Lady Antebellum isn’t the only musical group to have cancelled their tours. This other major country band did, too.
