'Charmed' Team Explains How Reboot Explores Current Issues

The actresses opened up about the upcoming The CW reboot.

The show’s co-executive producer Jessica O’Toole says that the show will take time to “organically show the women handling current issues, without lecturing the audience. Even before the election, we always wanted to explore that link between strong women and witchcraft.”

Madeleine said the show is tackling these issues “because in this day and age you have to be upfront about which side you’re on,” according to Variety.

Alyssa Milano is speaking out with her thoughts on the Charmed reboot.

The 45-year-old actress, who stars in the new Netflix series Insatiable, wishes that the execs of the reboot reached out to her and the other original stars from the beginning.

“I wish that they would have come to us and we would have been involved since the beginning,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “But having said that, I do hope that it reaches the newer generation and impacts that generation the way ours was able to do for its generation.”

Alyssa shot down the idea of making a cameo in an episode or even directing an episode.

“I don’t think so,” she said. “I think that that ship has sailed for me.”

The ladies were joined at the event by their co-stars Ellen Tamaki, Ser’Darius Blain, and Rupert Evans, as well as the show’s producers.

It’s no secret that original cast member Holly Marie Combs is not supportive of the reboot, but the cast hopes she’ll give it a chance.

“Of course, you can’t help but feel disappointed because I think the script is fantastic,” Madeleine said (via EW). “I really hope maybe she’ll see it and like it.”

“I think that there’s also a lot of positive stuff coming out, too, and I think that we’ve collectively made the decision to focus on that,” Melonie added.

The ladies are starring in the reboot of the beloved series and they explained why they want fans of the original series to give the new show a chance.

“We come in peace. I think the original was so wonderful, and they were really trailblazers and we could not be here without them,” Madeleine said during the panel (via IndieWire).

“There are core similarities with the original show… I hope [fans] embrace it… We want to honor it properly while bringing a modern twist. Just — come with us, see if you like it,” Sarah added.

The CW Orders Five New Series, Including 'Charmed' & 'Roswell' Reboots!

With all the cancellations being announced by the networks this week, there is room for new series to be introduced to the world and The CW just announced orders for five exciting series.

Two of the shows that fans figured would likely get orders include the reboots of classic shows Charmed and Roswell.

There are also shows starring Taye Diggs and Austin Nichols on the way, as well as one that is a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries universe.

Sarah Jeffery to Star in The CW's 'Charmed' Reboot

Sarah Jeffery will be playing one of the three sisters in the upcoming Charmed reboot for The CW!

The show is about three sisters whole discover that they are witches and Sarah is set to play “the youngest sister, Madison, a bubbly college freshman who finds witchcraft at odds with her goal of getting into a super-fun sorority,” according to Deadline.

Melonie Diaz has been cast as Mel, one of the sisters. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor Ser’Darius Blain will be playing the boyfriend of the third sister, Macy.

Sarah is best known for her work as Jennifer Lopez‘s daughter on NBC’s Shades of Blue, which will soon debut its third season. She also appeared in the first Descendants movie.

Melonie Diaz Lands Lead in 'Charmed' Reboot!

Melonie Diaz, who has starred in The Belko Experiment, Fruitvale Station, and more, has landed one of the leading roles in the upcoming Charmed reboot!

The 33-year-old actress will play Mel, “one of the three witch sisters” who is “a passionate, outspoken activist who loses her way in the wake of family tragedy,” Variety reports.

Back in January, the reboot got a pilot order from The CW. However, one of the show’s original stars, Holly Marie Combs, was not happy about the news of a reboot.

No other casting news has been revealed yet.
