Why Wasn't Cheri Oteri Involved in 'SNL 40'? She Explains Here!

Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary celebration aired this past weekend, and Twitter was noticeably upset when former cast member Cheri Oteri was not involved.

The 52-year-old comedian, known for playing Spartan cheerleader Ariana, grouchy neighbor Rita DelVecchio, hyper child Althea McMahonaman, and more on SNL, went on Watch What Happened Live! to explain her absence.

“To be fair, I have to say that I wasn’t originally able to go,” Cheri said, “and then just a couple of days ago, I was able to pull it together. I really enjoyed the show, but the after-party when Prince sang with the B-52s with [Kate Pierson], I was like, ‘Woo!’”

Here’s what the cast had to share:

Kristen, on auditioning for SNL: “Auditioning for SNL is the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life. It was terrifying.”

Amy, on doing scenes with her fellow female cast members: “Every time I did a scene with the other ladies, it felt like a highlight. And if it was a stinker, it was almost more fun to think about how we would laugh about it later.”

Tina, on succeeding at SNL: “It’s understood that everyone comes in and has to write for themselves. That’s the difference between getting handed the part of the stewardess and getting to play what you think is funny. You’re not going to stay up all night to give yourself one wife line.”
