Coachella Getting Pushed Back to 2022 Amid Pandemic (Report)

Coachella is reportedly getting pushed back again.

The 2021 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is reportedly being pushed back from October of 2021 to April of 2022, industry sources told Variety.

It’s expected that Stagecoach festival, which takes place the weekend after Coachella, would also move as well, according to the report.

If postponed once again, Coachella will have been moved a total of four times thus far amid the pandemic, having first been scheduled in April of 2020.

“The sources said the reason for the latest postponement is ongoing uncertainty over the COVID-19 pandemic, even though many promoters and live-entertainment companies are planning for at least a partial resumption of touring in the late summer and fall. However, Coachella regularly sells out its 125,000 per day tickets immediately, and the sheer logistics of more than 100,000 people traveling to and gathering at a single location create immeasurable possibilities for disease transmission,” Variety reported.

“While the October dates are still seven months away, preparations for the festival would begin in earnest soon, and without acts on normal tours — The Weeknd’s After Hours tour is the first major one on the books, and it’s scheduled to begin next January — the challenges of putting together an event on the scale of Coachella is much more daunting.”

That doesn’t mean other festivals can’t happen this fall: multiple events are still plotted in the next coming months.

“There’s a big difference between having two weekend of Coachella in California and throwing a country festival in Florida,” a source told the outlet.

Coachella's April 2021 Dates Have Been Canceled, New Dates to Be Announced

It was just announced that the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival‘s dates for April 2021 have been canceled.

The annual festival did not happen in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The original April 2020 dates were pushed to October 2020, but those dates were canceled altogether.

The headliners for the 2020 festival – Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine – were all announced to return for the 2021 festival. Now, we are awaiting new dates for the festival.

The Stagecoach festival’s April 2021 dates were also canceled.

Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the public health officer for California’s Riverside County, announced the news on Twitter.

Coachella Gets a Tentative 2021 Return Date

Coachella has a tentative new date.

Following the news that the long-running festival will not be happening at all in 2020, promoters confirmed on Thursday (June 11) that Coachella and Stagecoach will be rescheduled for April of 2021 at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio Calif.

“Under the continuing health guidance of the County of Riverside, Coachella and Stagecoach 2020 will not take place this October as previously rescheduled. This is not the future that any of us hoped to confront, but our main focus remains the well-being of our fans, staff, artists, desert partners and everyone involved in the festival,” the announcement reads.

“A year without Coachella and Stagecoach is hard for us to comprehend, but we have every intention of returning in 2021. As of now, Coachella weekend one will take place April 9 – 11, 2021 and weekend two will be April 16 – 18, 2021. Stagecoach is set for April 23 – 25, 2021. We look forward to sharing our new lineups and more information. We can’t wait to be together in the desert again when it is safe. All 2020 passes will be honored in 2021. Current pass holders will be sent an email by the end of the day on Monday, June 15 with further instructions to request a refund or to roll over to next year.”

Sources tell Variety that “Goldenvoice realized that this October would be unfeasible for the festivals many weeks ago, and the delay in the announcement was due to consideration over whether it would return in April 2021 with a diminished audience, or October of next year with a full audience.”

Here are all the events that have been postponed or canceled amid the pandemic.
