Colin Firth is headed to television to star in a new HBO Max series.

The Staircase is a limited series is based off the true-crime documentary of the same name, THR reports.

The series will span just eight episodes and will explore the life of novelist Michael Peterson (Firth), his North Carolina family and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen.

“It is a thrill to collaborate with Antonio Campos, Maggie Cohn and Annapurna Television for the exploration of this true-life story that’s rife with dramatic revelations,” Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max head of original content, shared in a statement on the project. “With the enormously talented Colin Firth at the center of this adaptation, the story of The Staircase will continue to captivate audiences with every bizarre twist and turn.”

The docuseries aired on Sundance Channel in 2005, and the most recent updates to the case, and second trial, were streamed on Netflix in 2018.

“This has been a project I have been working on in one way or another since 2008,” Antonio, who will also direct a handful of episodes, added. “It’s been a long and winding road, but well worth the wait to be able to find partners like HBO Max, Annapurna, co-showrunner Maggie Cohn and the incredible Colin Firth to dramatize such a complex true-life story.”

The role will mark Colin‘s first television role since 1995′s Pride and Prejudice.

Rupert Everett has worked with Colin Firth on multiple occasions and he’s opening up about something the actor did that left him in shock.

The 61-year-old actor was interviewed on the latest episode of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories show and he talked about his history with Colin.

The actors met while working on the movie Another Country back in 1984, where Rupert says he “fell in love with” Colin.

“Well, I just got a crush on him. I became obsessed by him and we hung out together all the time. And then I realized we were completely different types of people,” Rupert said. This launched a nearly 20-year feud between the actors, which they have since reconciled.

While filming the 2007 comedy St Trinian’s, the guys had a sex scene and Rupert was completely surprised when Colin used tongue while they kissed.

“The weird thing was, I had no idea that Colin was going to tongue me,” Rupert said. He jokingly added, “In the snog. Yeah. Totally going for it. Yeah. I said, Colin, please respect me.”

Rupert added, “Yeah, I was in shock afterwards.”

In an interview last year, Rupert gave an update on a friendship with another very famous friend who he had a falling out with.

The film follows Sam (Firth) and Tusker (Stanley Tucci), partners of 20 years, who are travelling across England in their old campervan visiting friends, family and places from their past.

Following a life-changing diagnosis, their time together has become more important than ever until secret plans test their love like never before.

The movie’s North American rights for distribution were just acquired by Bleecker Street.

Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci are getting close.

The 60-year-old and 59-year-old actors star as a couple taking a final road trip together in the upcoming Supernova, and the trailer for the film just debuted on Tuesday (September 22).

In the movie, the two visit each other’s family and friends across England while dealing with Stanley‘s character’s onset dementia.

“I want to be remembered for who I was, and not for who I’m about to become,” he says in the emotional preview for the film, directed and written by Harry Macqueen.

The film also stars James Dreyfus, Pippa Haywood and Sarah Woodward.

Supernova is currently scheduled to be released in theaters in the U.K. on November 27.

Back in December, it was announced that Colin was separating from wife Livia after 22 years of marriage, but they remain friendly.

Colin Firth and Livia Firth are still friendly after splitting up late last year.

To celebrate his 60th birthday this week, Livia shared a throwback photo of Colin in his Elton John costume for the Kingsman movie.

“60th and not feeling it,” Livia captioned the fun picture on Instagram. “Happy birthday to the best partner in crime ever (for the last 25 years and counting) (this is when Colin stole Elton John costume on the Kingsmen set …) #thursday #thursdayvibes.”

Colin and Livia announced their split after 22 years of marriage in December 2019.

“They maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children,” their joint statement read at the time.
