David Duchovny Reveals He Almost Turned Down His Role in 'X-Files'

David Duchovny is looking back at a pivotal moment in his career.

In an appearance on Literally! With Rob Lowe on Wednesday (March 31), the actor revealed that he considered turning down The X-Files pilot.

“I had gotten… a couple of scenes in this movie of the week, and it was a director who I was friendly with, and I was going to have to…pull out of that part to do The X-Files pilot,” he told Rob. “I said to my agents, ‘I don’t want to do that. You know, she’s a friend, and I don’t want to pull out.’”

He added, “X-Files, this is about extraterrestrials. How long can it go? It’s a good pilot but you’re either going to see the aliens or [not].”

“I wasn’t interested in conspiracy theories,” David said, “and I was perfectly willing to just say, ‘I’m going to have to pass on that pilot, because I said I’d do this other project.’”

David‘s agents eventually convinced him to take the part.

“It’s scary to think back on, if you didn’t open this door, or you took that left instead of that right. It’s like, none of it had to happen,” he said. “You talk about actors being dumb… well, that was me.”

Rob also asked David whether another X Files movie was possibly in the works.

“That’s really a Fox question,” he said. “You know, they’re weird because it’s… a big-ticket property and you think, why wouldn’t you try to do another one? So, I don’t know.”

David recently joined the cast of another star-studded project!

David Duchovny Reveals He Explained the Concept of 'Booty Calls' to Prince Charles

David Duchovny has revealed that he once had to explain the term “booty calls” to Prince Charles!

The 57-year-old X-Files star made an appearance The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday evening (May 3), and James brought out a picture from the ’90s of him sitting and smiling with Prince Charles at a concert, looking “very chummy.”

Since the royal wedding is just weeks away, James wanted to know the context of that photo.

Aside from being confused by signs at the concert, David recalled the hilariously awkward conversation that arose after All Saints‘ hit the stage with their song “Bootie Call.”

“In the song, which I don’t remember, they say the phrase ‘booty call’ over and over again and I saw Prince Charles just kind of looking perplexed. And he said, ‘Booty call…,’” David recalled, using a British accent. “And I said, well I can explain it you, it’s a little off color, but I can do it. And he said, ‘Yes, please.’” Watch the full segment below…

What's The Future of 'The X-Files' After the 2018 Season?

Fox’s The X-Files returns tonight (January 3) with 10 new episodes, marking 25 years since the series premiere in 1993.

Season 11 kicks off with Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) realizing that there are others looking for their long-lost son William.

“I’m always thinking that this could be it,” creator Chris Carter told Collider. “I don’t know what the future holds. While I try to do my best, and we did well the last time out, this time out could be different. For me, The X-Files can go on, indefinitely. It’s really how long Mulder and Scully, and David and Gillian want to do the show.”

So, would Chris consider doing another season without Gillian, now that she has announced that season 11 will be her last?

Gillian Anderson Says She's Done with 'The X-Files' After Season 11: 'This Will Be it for Me'

Gillian Anderson has announced that season 11 of The X-Files will be her last one.

The 49-year-old actress, who has been playing Dana Scully on and off since the show debuted on Fox in 1993, told press at 2017 New York Comic Con on Sunday (October 8) that she was probably done with the character/series after the upcoming season, the second season in the revival.

“No, no, I think this will be it for me,” Gillian expressed while sitting alongside co-stars David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi, as well as creator Chris Carter.

“Because it felt like it wasn’t over,” Gillian added about doing season eleven (via ScreenRant). “It didn’t feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that.”
