Dolly Parton is counting herself as one of the lucky ones after hearing of Olympia Dukakis‘ passing at the age of 89 over the weekend.
The 75-year-old singer starred with Olympia in 1989′s Steel Magnolias.
“I was so sorry to hear that Olympia Dukakis had passed away,” she shared in a statement to Today. “She has been one of my favorite people that I have ever known or worked with.”
Dolly added, “I really got very close to her and felt like we were good friends. Even though I didn’t get to see her much, I thought of her often and knew that she was such a quality human being. She will be missed by her fans, her family, and those of us that were lucky enough to get to know her personally.”
Another of Olympia‘s Steel Magnolias co-stars, Sally Field, also shared her tribute on Twitter.
What can I say but I loved her? Everyone loved her. She was a gift..unique and talented and one of a kind. Rest in peace my friend Olympia.

Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute was actually filmed back in 2019 and now you’ll be able to stream it whenever you want thanks to Netflix.
The concert will begin streaming on Netflix at 3am EST on Wednesday (April 7) and you can check out the full lineup of artists right here.

Dolly Parton‘s contribution to science is paying off, and now she’s getting a dose of it herself.
The 75-year-old music icon got her first dose of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine on Tuesday (March 2).

“Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine,” she cleverly captioned the post, referencing her own funding of the Moderna vaccine.
Back in April of 2020, Dolly pledged a $1 million donation to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville towards COVID-19 research and support.

Dolly Parton is asking legislators not to consider a bill to erect a statue in her likeness at the moment.
The 75-year-old music icon spoke out in a statement on Thursday (February 17).

“I want to thank the Tennessee legislature for their consideration of a bill to erect a statue of me on the Capitol grounds. I am honored and humbled by their intention but I have asked the leaders of the state legislature to remove the bill from any and all consideration,” she revealed.
“Given all that is going on in the world, I don’t think putting me on a pedestal is appropriate at this time. I hope, though, that somewhere down the road several years from now or perhaps after I’m gone if you still feel I deserve it, then I’m certain I will stand proud in our great State Capitol as a grateful Tennessean. In the meantime, I’ll continue to try and do good work to make this great state proud.”

Dolly Parton is putting a new spin on one of her classic hit songs!
Squarespace just aired their 2021 Super Bowl Commercial featuring a re-recording of the 75-year-old music legend’s 1980 hit song “9 to 5″ now as “5 to 9.”
The spin on the song is meant to honor the historic number of people who are working to turn an after-hours project or passion into their own business or side hustle.
Damien Chazelle directed the commercial and Justin Peck oversaw the choreography, with many of the dancers featured from Broadway and off Broadway.
Squarespace worked with Dolly to rewrite the lyrics to “celebrate a new generation of entrepreneurs, and empower anyone with a dream to get started – the music is the star of the commercial.”
Plus, Dolly’s own side hustle, a namesake fragrance, will launch its website on Squarespace before the Super Bowl at DollyFragrance.com.
