You's Elizabeth Lail Joins 'Gossip Girl' Revival, Lands Lead in 'Mack & Rita' Movie

Elizabeth Lail has booked two exiting roles!

The 28-year-old actress is best known for playing Guinevere Beck in the Netflix series You and now she’s joining the cast of the upcoming Gossip Girl revival series.

No details on Elizabeth‘s role have been revealed, but Deadline reports that she has joined the ensemble cast of the upcoming HBO Max series.

Elizabeth will also be playing the title role in the upcoming indie movie Mack and Rita, which is being described as similar to the classic movie Big.

In Mack and Rita, Elizabeth will play Mackenzie Martin, who “is tired of doing all the things she has to do to keep up and get ahead in her 30’s. Since she was a little girl, raised by her Grammie Martin, her deepest wish has been to be just like her Grammie, comfortable in her own skin, great at saying ‘no’ and largely unburdened by what other people think of her. Not to mention Mack has always loved a good chunky sweater and being in bed by 8 pm. While at her best friend’s bachelorette in Palm Springs, Mack stumbles into a sound bath regression pod and comes out as a 70-year-old woman, who she names her Aunt Rita. But Mack’s transformation really has nothing to do with her exterior body and Mack she learns that the reality of old age isn’t quite what she imagined. It turns out that being comfortable in your own skin isn’t a given at 70, or any age, really, because self acceptance comes from within and only through actually living.”

Diane Keaton will be starring as Rita while Taylour Paige is playing Carla, who is Rita’s best friend as young Rita.

Is Elizabeth Lail's Beck in 'You' Season 2 on Netflix?

The second season of the hit series You is about to debut on Netflix and you might be wondering if Elizabeth Lail is returning as Beck in the new episodes.

SPOILER ALERT – the character was killed off at the end of the first season by Penn Badgley‘s Joe and she gave him the idea to frame the murder on her therapist, played by John Stamos.

So, will Beck be making a return to the show? Well, we have some differing statements from the show’s two stars.

Elizabeth herself has denied that she is coming back. She told Radio Times, “I am sad to not continue that journey with him. But it’s only him, and I think they’re shooting it in LA, and so nothing will be the same. Hardly anything. It’ll be a whole other story…The unfortunate thing is, the woman doesn’t win in the end and I’m so sick and tired of that.”

Penn says that Beck will be back in episode two of season two, though it’s not clear yet if it’s new footage or existing footage.

“There’s a revisitation of that [the murder] with Joe in the second episode of the second season, where you get to see a bit more of the hard reality of what he did to her,” he told ET. “Whereas you’re sort of, for better or worse, mercifully saved from seeing that in the first season. That always haunts me, thinking of Beck. It’s like, ‘You really did that in the first season, and we’re still going, and people really like this guy?!’ That’s disturbing. In his mind, she’s not even dead. I’m not giving you some kind of spoiler, she’s dead. In his mind, everyone’s still alive because the pain that he feels he suffered at their hand is very much still alive.”

Penn Badgley Says He Was Molested by 'Gossip Girl' Fans

Penn Badgley poses with his You co-stars John Stamos and Elizabeth Lail while attending a PaleyFest panel on Sunday (September 9) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 31-year-old actor stars in the new Lifetime series and he’s no stranger to being the star of a popular series. He says that he was molested by overzealous Gossip Girl fans back in the day.

“I think as an actor you can become an object of desire, which is something women are already accustomed to more or less around the world — I’ve definitely been, I mean, I don’t want to sound sensationalist, but I’ve literally been molested — just in the literal sense of the word — by many people in the moment,” Penn said in an interview with The Daily Beast. “Because that’s what they do.”

Penn acknowledged during the interview that he is privileged as a white man, but cited Terry Crews as an example of experiences that happen to men.

UPDATE: Penn released a new statement to clarify the original comment.

FYI: Elizabeth is wearing an A.L.C. dress.
