American Idol's Beane Tells Ellen DeGeneres That He Had a Feeling He'd Be Eliminated

Beane, one of our favorite contestants on American Idol this season, made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week after being voted off the show.

The 23-year-old singer, whose real name is Brennan Hepler, made it to the Top 12 of the competition this year, but he was eliminated during Sunday’s episode.

Ellen asked Beane if she felt he jinxed himself by singing “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” on the Top 12 episode.

“I had a feeling that might have been my last song, so I was like, let’s shape a moment,” Beane said. “Let’s have a moment. You know? It’s a beautiful song and it was a fun one to do.”

Beane also talked about how the show gave him the freedom to be himself.

“I think the freedom that American Idol gave me to dress how I wanted and present as an artist was super, super lovely, to really feel like myself every time I was on stage,” he said. “I come from a small town in central P.A., Williamsport. I love my people from Williamsport, but I definitely don’t walk around there in my getup. So I think anytime you put yourself out there in such a way, you’re leaving yourself open for judgement and exposure and comments, but people from back home have been nothing but sweet.”

Beane also performed the song “Searching for a Feeling,” which he sang on American Idol and admitted that he wasn’t happy with the way he originally performed it.

Find out why American Idol is currently on a two-week hiatus.
