Ellie Kemper Addresses Massive Backlash After Her Participation in Veiled Prophet Ball From 1999

Ellie Kemper is responding to the controversy she was involved with last week when it was discovered that she was crowned the queen of the 1999 Veiled Prophet Ball when she was 19.

If you don’t know the history behind the annual debutante ball, it was founded by wealthy White elites back in 1878 and “emphasized the existing power structure.”

An anonymous person played the “Veiled Prophet” at each ball and that person, who was chosen by local elites, got to choose the Queen of Love and Beauty at each ball. Ellie received this title back in 1999, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. An article from the paper, written in December 1999, states that she was “the 105th young woman to be so honored by the Veiled Prophet organization. She wore a white satin square-neck gown designed by Tomasina and purchased at Saks Fifth Avenue.”

Ellie became a major trending topic after her past participation was revealed.

Celebrities Support Ellen DeGeneres' Statement on Her Alleged Behavior & Workplace Toxicity

Ellen DeGeneres came forward on the first episode of her talk show to break her silence on the allegations of workplace toxicity and rumors about how she treats those who work below her.

“I’m so happy to be back in the studio. There are a lot of things I want to talk about. I’ve been looking forward to addressing it all directly and, unfortunately, talking directly to people has been illegal for six months, so I have a virtual audience here instead,” she said. “As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show, and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected. I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show. This is The Ellen DeGeneres Show, I am Ellen DeGeneres.”

The Office's Brian Baumgartner Pitched This Relationship To Writers But It Never Happened

Brian Baumgartner was really hoping that Kevin and Erin could be a couple on The Office.

In a recent episode of his The Oral History of ‘The Office’ podcast, the actor opened up about his pitch to the writers about the could-be couple, with guest Ellie Kemper.

“Do you know that I pitched Kevin and Erin getting together?” Brian told her, to which she replied, “I think that would be a pretty reasonable relationship.”

He added, “I went up to the writers’ room, and I said, ‘If Kevin could mature just a little, there was something about their energy that I thought was right. Their energies matched in a weird way.’”

Ellie agreed, saying, “That actually makes perfect sense to me. I love that pitch.”

“Sadly,” Brian said, “we never got to witness the great love story that Kevin and Erin could have been.”

Ellie did open up about Erin’s actual relationship on the series with Andy, admitting that it didn’t make sense to her.

“I never thought [Andy and Erin were a good match],” Ellie shared. “I felt like Andy was a bit too childish. He wasn’t ready to take care of Erin. Erin was ready to take care of Andy, but I felt that it was uneven in that respect.”

If you missed it, this former co-star of Brian and Ellie‘s is trying to get a spinoff happening…
