Fox Cancels 'Filthy Rich' & 'Next' After Just One Season Each

Fox has pulled the plug on its two new shows of the season – Filthy Rich and Next.

Both of the shows were supposed to be mid-season entries for the 2019-2020 television seasons, but they were delayed due to the pandemic and premiered this fall.

Only five episodes of Filthy Rich have aired and just three episodes of Next have been seen so far, but the ratings just haven’t been there for either series.

Variety says that “rising production costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic played a significant part in the decision.”

Filthy Rich was a new series starring Kim Cattrall while Next was a thriller starring John Slattery.

Netflix has canceled a bunch of their shows so far in 2020 and we have a full recap of all the shows that have been axed.

'Last Man Standing' to End with Season 9

It was just announced that Fox’s Last Man Standing will be ending with season 9.

“It has been an honor to be home for Tim Allen and ‘Last Man Standing,’” Michael Thorn, president of entertainment for Fox Entertainment, said in a statement. “Millions of families have long enjoyed the show because, perhaps, they see themselves in the Baxters. The loyal affection they’ve shown proves just how much this series has meant to them. On behalf of everyone at Fox, a big, big thank you to ‘Last Man Standing’s’ brilliant cast, led by Tim, Nancy and Hector, as well as its writers and crew, headed by showrunner Kevin Abbott. We’ll be rooting them on throughout the season as they conclude what has been an impressive run.”

“I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of ‘Last Man Standing,’” Tim Allen, the show’s star said. “I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”

The show was actually cancelled once before in 2017 when it aired on ABC and was then picked up by Fox for the final few seasons.

Taraji P. Henson to Play Cookie Again in 'Empire' Spin-off Series!

Cookie Lyon might be returning to your TV screens in the future!

Taraji P. Henson is set to reprise her iconic role in an Empire spin-off series that is currently in the works at Fox. This marks the first project to come out of the Oscar-nominated actress’ first-look deal with the network.

Empire co-creator Danny Strong will co-write the series with Yolanda Lawrence and Stacy A. Littlejohn, who also worked on the hit show. They will all serve as co-showrunners.

Not much is known about the spin-off series’ plot, but THR reports that it will “follow Cookie as she moves to L.A. and potentially feature some of her other family members.”

Things didn’t end as planned on Empire when the series came to an early conclusion back in April 2020 due to the pandemic. The spin-off series will give the creators a chance to wrap things up properly.

'Outmatched' Cancelled by Fox After One Season

Outmatched will not be coming back for another season.

Fox has announced they will not be renewing the comedy starring Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson for a second season, Deadline reports.

The move to cancel doesn’t come that much as a surprise since the show didn’t do well ratings-wise. Outmatched was the only new live-action comedy by Fox this season.

Outmatched followed a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City trying to raise their four kids – three of whom happen to be certified geniuses.

Fox Reveals Fall 2020 Schedule & These 4 Shows Still Could Be Cancelled

Fox has revealed the fall 2020 television schedule, and the Coronavirus pandemic is sending some ripples through the autumn’s airwaves.

“The effects of this global health crisis leave no business unaffected,” Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment, said about creating the schedule. “As a media company that prides itself on an entrepreneurial spirit and the focus that comes with doing fewer things better, we mobilized, swiftly creating an entirely new, original-programming lineup for the fall to share with our partners this upfront. In remote meetings with advertising and marketing partners over recent weeks, we sought to listen first and understand each partner’s unique concerns. Our primary goal is to help them back to business, so in turn, the message we’ve shared is one of relative stability on Fox, combining the best of primetime sports and entertainment with which to help our partners and their customers back to market.”

Still, Fox has not decided on the fates of several shows including Last Man Standing, Prodigal Son, Outmatched, and The Resident.

Dramas Almost Family and Deputy were both previously canceled.
