Charles Shaughnessy Reveals Fran Drescher Has A Brilliant Idea For 'The Nanny' Reboot

Charles Shaughnessy is spilling just a few The Nanny secrets.

The 66-year-old actor spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the fan favorite show, which is now streaming on HBO Max, and revealed that Fran Drescher has some ideas on how to reboot the series.

“We’ve talked about it, and she actually had a really, really, I thought, genius idea,” Charles shared. “I just thought, ‘This was very smart.’ That’s all I’ll say.”

He added that he’s “very hesitant about anything” involving a reboot of the series. “[But] I heard that and went, ‘Oh, that’ll work.’”

Charles did open up about what led to the end of The Nanny in the first place and that was giving fans what they really wanted – Fran and Maxwell together.

“The fans wanted us to get together. The network definitely wanted us to get married, [but] we knew that that was kind of a death knell,” he shared. “When you’ve got a relationship built on this sexual tension, getting married is like the last thing you want to do…so, I think we kind of we did it but were like, ‘Oh well.’”

After the series debuted on HBO Max, fans were shocked to find out that this actor starred on it!

Fran Drescher Has an Actress in Mind Already for 'The Nanny' Broadway Musical

The Nanny is getting a lot of attention this week after the full series was added to HBO Max!

Fran Drescher has previously announced that a Broadway musical based on the TV show is in the works and now she has revealed that she already has an actress in mind for the lead role.

In an interview with Marie Claire, Fran said that the musical will be “much bigger than the TV show” and she envisions Mr. Sheffield’s staff having a feather-duster dance number.

Though Fran wants to make sure the show can “stand on its own” without her starring in it, she’s considering playing the nanny’s mother Sylvia Fine in the show.

Fran Drescher Talks 'The Nanny' Virtual Reunion - Watch The Full Episode Here!

Fran Drescher is opening up about the virtual table reading for the pilot episode of The Nanny, which debuted today (April 6) on YouTube.

Talking with EW, the 62-year-old actress shared that the table read was a gift to the show’s amazing fans.

“We are doing this completely for the fans that have supported the show for all these decades. We thought, what better gift than to get together virtually from our living room to yours?”

She adds that “No one got paid for it [and] it’s been a blessing and kept us all busy and active. We feel like we’re accomplishing something and are very excited to deliver this present. It made us feel so good to see each other. If the fans get even a fraction of the uplifting experience we had, it will be worth it.”

Fran also shared that the table read was pre-recorded a week ago.

“We didn’t want to do it live-live. We thought some other things that were done that way with other groups didn’t have reliable sound,” she says. “We didn’t want it to be a frustrating experience, if we had a sound glitch we did a take two.”

Fran reunited with Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis, Lauren Lane, Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, Madeline Zima, Renee Taylor, Alex Sternin, Ann Hampton Callaway, DeeDee Rescher, Rachel Chagall and Jonathan Penner for the table read.

She added, “It’s a once in a lifetime Pandemic Performance for our fans around the world who are currently stressing in isolation and could use a real upper! It sure has given each of us a lift and we hope it does for you as well.”

Fran Drescher Reveals Odd Request Donald Trump Made On 'The Nanny'!

Fran Drescher made an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday night (February 3) and dished about the time Donald Trump was a guest on her hit sitcom, The Nanny!

Back in 1993, the now-president Trump filmed a guest spot on the sitcom and played himself as a rich friend to Charles Shaughnessy‘s Mr. Sheffield.

“I stood in this scene,” Fran recalled to host Seth Meyers, “and I said to the two of them, ‘All you millionaires are alike.’ And “Peter [Jacobson], now my gay ex-husband, he got a note from his assistant, Donald Trump’s assistant that said, ‘Mr. Trump is not a millionaire. He’s a billionaire and we’d like you to change the script.”

“I thought that seemed too on the money because I know Fran would have described anyone who was rich as a millionaire,” Fran continued. “But to say billionaire seems like a specific choice. So we asked him if it would be OK if we wrote zillionaire. And he said that was fine.”

Fran Drescher also talked about her new NBC series Indebted and learning how to use her iconic voice to her benefit overtime.
