Freddie Prinze, Jr. is sharing more about his and wife Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s love story.

In a recent interview with US Weekly, the 44-year-old actor revealed just how they first became friends from the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer.

“She didn’t have a driver’s license. She didn’t know how to drive. And we were shooting in Southport, North Carolina, which was an hour’s drive from the nearest Wilmington, which was the biggest city that was closest to us. It was an hour drive just to get to the gym. And when we transported the film down to South Park, she had no way to get up there,” Freddie explained. “So, I started driving her, and that’s when her and I became friends.”

He added, “We just would talk about life and stuff like that, and we had completely different philosophies on just about everything. ‘Cause she was a born and raised New Yorker and I was a born and raised L.A. kid, and we just looked at everything like night and day.”

Freddie continued on, saying that he wanted to keep being friends with Sarah because “I thought she was too skinny and I wanted to cook for her. Because that’s what my family does.”

“We started this weekly barbecue thing at her house, and me and my cousins would come over and cook food for her and her friends. And then we’d make sure everybody ate, and that was kind of how our friendship began.”

If you missed it, Sarah shared a “thank you note” to one of their mutual friends for missing a dinner that ultimately lead to her and Freddie being more than friends.

Freddie Prinze Jr. wears a pair of latex gloves while picking up some packages from a local post office on Monday morning (March 30) in Brentwood, Calif.

The 44-year-old actor took extra precaution to not get any germs on his hand while running a quick errand.

Freddie has been an avid chef for quite some time and he has even written a cookbook. With his extra time at home, the actor has been spending time in the kitchen!

The 42-year-old Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress took to Instagram this week to make sure the Down to You actor had a very special 44th birthday.

“A very long time ago, on this very day, this handsome man was born,” Sarah captioned a shirtless throwback pic of her hubby, which you can see here.

She added, “I am extremely happy about that (although I doubt he’s happy that I still have this high school picture) happy birthday @realfreddieprinze #happybirthday.”

The 42-year-old Buffy the Vampire Slayer star was spotted doing some shopping on Thursday (March 5) in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

“We try nowadays to only have one of us do the mornings with the kids so that way the other one can sleep now that they’re old enough,” she told People.

“Freddie does the big chef cooking and I wind up helping with the dishes,” she continued. “He’ll say helping, I wind up doing them all. But now I can just shove them in the dishwasher so it’s easier.”

Freddie added, “We just try to make the kids own what they do as a way of giving them a sense of responsibility, so my kids wash their own dishes. … They make their own beds, clean their own rooms, they’re responsible for their toys.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. is giving some great relationship advice while revealing how his relationship with Sarah Michelle Gellar is still working after all these years.

If you don’t know, the couple married in September of 2002.

“There’s no keys. There’s no rules. There’s nothing like that. I don’t believe in false expectations,” the 43-year-old actor told Us Weekly. “I just believe in knowing who you are when you start a relationship. And if you don’t, then that relationship probably isn’t going to work.”

He continued, “If you don’t know who you are when you get in that relationship, odds are the other person is going to have a big hand in defining what kind of person you’re going to be. Or, and worse, if you pretend to be someone else, that’s a lie you’ve got to live forever if you want that relationship to work out forever. So, knowing yourself is sort of the key to doing it.”

“I played video games since I was a little boy. Sarah knew I played video games. If she ever gave me a hard time about playing video games, Sarah and I would not be together. Period. There would be no us. We’d just be friends ’cause I’m not giving up something I love because you don’t think it’s cool. And conversely, Sarah likes what she likes. I don’t trash reality television. I don’t trash any. If she digs it, cool. If you love and respect someone, what brings them joy should make you happy, whether you’re involved with it or not,” Freddie continued. “So, let your girls watch what they want to watch. Let your dudes watch what they want to watch. Don’t give them a hard time. And if you find yourself in one of those relationships, maybe it’s time to have a conversation.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar is giving a special shout out to a friend on Instagram for inadvertently setting her up with now husband, Freddie Prinze, Jr.

In the post, the 42-year-old actress revealed that the duo was all set to catch up one night for dinner with a mutual friend, but that friend missed her flight.

“20 years ago this week, my friend @realfreddieprinze and I were supposed to have dinner with a mutual friend from out of town,” Sarah starts her story. “That friend missed her flight, but we decided to still meet and catch up.”

She added, “Now 20 years together, 17 plus married and two kids, we still go to that restaurant for dinner. So thank you @sloaney77 for not showing up for dinner.”

Sarah recently opened up about the secret to her marriage with Freddie.

It started when Sarah posted a photo of herself sporting a an all-black ensemble that included a knitted sweater, platform boots, and metallic joggers.

“When your husband thinks your pants are slightly ridiculous, what do you do!?!?” she captioned it. “Obviously you take tons of dramatic pictures, and spam him with them (and yes, I’m still wearing my daughters headband) more to come @realfreddieprinze.”

“No babe, trash bag sweat pants are obviously not ridiculous. 🤦‍♂️,” Freddie Prinze Jr. commented.

However, fashion designer Christian Siriano wrote, “Chiccc,” while actress Zoey Deutch commented with a fire emoji.

Sarah Michelle Gellar then added more photos in her Stories, writing comments like “Do I wear them again?” and “Do you think they will grow on @realfreddieprinze if I just keep wearing them?!?”
