Disney will be deploying new release strategies for two of their most highly anticipated movies of the year!
The upcoming Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings starring Simu Liu and the upcoming Ryan Reynolds video game comedy Free Guy will both get theatrical releases, though they won’t be traditional ones that we’re used to.

Disney has removed two upcoming 20th Century Studios movies from the December 2020 release calendar.
Ryan Reynolds‘ video game comedy Free Guy and the murder mystery Death on the Nile were both scheduled to be released in December, but now their release dates are unknown, according to THR.
Free Guy was set to hit theaters on December 11 while Death on the Nile was dated for December 18.
Two movies from Universal Studios are scheduled to be released this month – Freaky on November 13 and Croods: The New Age on November 25 – and other than that, the only other major movie on the calendar for 2020 is Wonder Woman 1984, which is expected to be delayed.
55% of the movie theaters in the U.S. are currently shut down and theaters in the two biggest cities – New York City and Los Angeles – still haven’t reopened.
Ryan Reynolds is giving fans a tease of his new movie after it was unfortunately pushed back amid the global health crisis.
The 43-year-old actor posted a rough clip of Free Guy on Friday (April 3) to his YouTube.

“Free Guy is moving to Dec. 11. Here’s a clip that’s weirdly appropriate. We cut it a while ago (while there was still a Fox and before it was just 20th Century Pictures) and couldn’t finish it so ignore the watermarks. Thanks to Aspect for cutting it,” he captioned the video.
Many movies and events have been postponed or canceled due to the pandemic.

Ryan Reynolds stars in the upcoming adventure-comedy Free Guy and the first official trailer was just released!
The trailer had its global debut at Brazil’s CCXP event on Saturday (December 7) and now it’s online for fans around the world to watch.
In Free Guy, a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.
Ryan stars alongside Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Taika Waititi. The movie is directed by Shawn Levy and will be released on July 3, 2020.

The 42-year-old actor was joined at the event by his co-stars Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar, as well as director Shawn Levy.
The lucky crowd at the event got to see the first footage from the film, but we won’t get to watch it at home yet.
“On a very literal level, Free Guy is about Guy, who’s a bank teller. He works in a bank, and his bank gets robbed 17 times in a day, and eventually he realizes that’s weird and not normal,” Shawn said (via THR). “Ryan and I have talked about Free Guy as a superhero origin story without the cape and tights and the IP. If you were living in a video game and could master the system, your powers would be limitless.”
“I haven’t been this fully immersed, engaged and pumped [about] something since Deadpool,” Ryan said. “It spoke to the moment in some way.”

Ryan Reynolds throws a punch at a stunt actor while filming an intense fight scene for his upcoming movie Free Guy on Friday (May 24) in Boston, Mass.
The 42-year-old actor wore a tightly-fitted henley shirt and a cool pair of shades for the scene, in which he fought against two enemies.
The movie follows “a background character (Reynolds) who realizes he’s living in a video game. With the help of an avatar (Jodie Comer), he tries to prevent the makers of the game from shutting down his world.”
Free Guy hits theaters on July 3, 2020.
