George R.R. Martin Finishes Latest 'Game of Thrones' Book While Self-Isolating!

One good thing has come out of the coronavirus – the latest Game of Thrones book is done!

Author George R.R. Martin took to his blog on Tuesday (March 17) to reveal that he has finally finished “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth installment of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, which began with “A Game of Thrones” in 1991.

“Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day,” the 71-year-old author wrote. “Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.”

George went on to say that he’s been focused on writing and finishing the book as he’s been self-isolating during the outbreak.

“For those of you who may be concerned for me personally… yes, I am aware that I am very much in the most vulnerable population, given my age and physical condition,” George shared. “But I feel fine at the moment, and we are taking all sensible precautions. I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going in to town or seeing anyone.”

The most recent novel in his fantasy series was “A Dance with Dragons,” which was released in 2011.

“The Winds of Winter” does not have a release date yet.

George R.R. Martin Reacts to HBO Scrapping 'Long Night' Series

George R.R. Martin, the author of the “Game of Thrones” book series, is speaking out on HBO’s decision to not move forward with the planned series that was going to star Naomi Watts.

The prequel series, which George has referred to as The Long Night, was set thousands of years before the events in Game of Thrones. While the pilot is not being picked up, HBO did pick up a different prequel series titled House of the Dragon.

“As exciting as the series order is, I would be remiss if I did not also mention the bad news. HBO also announced that it has decided not to proceed with the other successor show we had in development, the one I kept calling The Long Night (though it was, and remains, officially untitled), the pilot for which was shot in Northern Ireland last spring and summer,” George wrote on his blog.

“Set thousands of years before either Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, and centered on the Starks and the White Walkers, the untitled pilot was written by Jane Goldman, directed by S.J. Clarkson, and starred Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, and a splendid cast. It goes without saying that I was saddened to hear the show would not be going to series,” he said. “Jane Goldman is a terrific screenwriter, and I enjoyed brainstorming with her. I do not know why HBO decided not to go to series on this one, but I do not think it had to do with House of the Dragon. This was never an either/or situation.”

“If television has room enough for multiple CSIs and Chicago shows… well, Westeros and Essos are a lot bigger, with thousands of years of history and enough tales and legends and characters for a dozen shows,” George wrote in his open letter. “Heartbreaking as it is to work for years on a pilot, to pour your blood and sweat and tears into it, and have it come to nought, it’s not at all uncommon. I’ve been there myself, more than once. I know Jane and her team are feeling the disappointment just now, and they have all my sympathy… with my thanks for all their hard work, and my good wishes for whatever they do next.”

George R.R. Martin Reveals Exciting Details for 'Game of Thrones' Prequel Series!

HBO is working on a Game of Thrones prequel series with the book series’ author George R.R. Martin and he just revealed some exciting details.

The prequel, which doesn’t yet have a name, will take place around 5,000 years before the events in Game of Thrones. It’s set in an era known as “The Golden Age of Heroes.”

Game of Thrones followed the rulers of seven kingdoms vying for the Iron Throne, but there will be many more kingdoms in this era.

“If you go back further, then there are nine kingdoms, and 12 kingdoms, and eventually you get back to where there are a hundred kingdoms — petty kingdoms — and that’s the era we’re talking about here,” George told Entertainment Weekly.

The family members of some of your favorite characters will be included.

“The Starks will definitely be there,” he said. “The Lannisters aren’t there yet, but Casterly Rock is certainly there.”

The show will once again be an ensemble piece with stars like Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, and Denise Gough.

“For Game of Thrones, we never even nominated anybody for lead actress or lead actor until recently. It was always for supporting [categories] because the show is such an ensemble,” he said. “I think that will be true for this show too. We don’t have leads so much as a large ensemble cast.”

George wants the show to be titled The Long Night.

“I heard a suggestion that it could be called The Longest Night, which is a variant I wouldn’t mind,” he sad. “That would be pretty good.”

'Game of Thrones' Author George R.R. Martin Opens Up About His Planned Ending For Novels

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is fondly looking back on the series after its final episode.

On his blog, the writer tried to answer one of fans’ biggest questions – will the books have the same ending as the television series?

“How will it all end? I hear people asking. The same ending as the show? Different? Well…yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes,” George wrote.

While he didn’t quite answer the question, he wanted viewers to know that the “real” ending isn’t important.

“Book or show, which will be the ‘real’ ending? It’s a silly question. How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have?” George added, referencing novel-turned-film Gone With The Wind.

“How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet,” George concluded.

George has two more novels left in the GOT series, which he did not reveal when would be released.

'Game of Thrones' Author George R.R. Martin Shuts Down Rumors About Final Books

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is speaking out about rumors surrounding his final two novels.

According to GOT actor Ian McElhinney, George had already finished The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring but was waiting for the HBO series to conclude before publishing them.

“It boggles me that anyone would believe this story, even for an instant. It makes not a whit of sense. Why would I sit for years on completed novels?” George wrote on his blog.

He continue, “I will, however, say for the record — no, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are not finished. Dream is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six. No, the books are not done. HBO did not ask me to delay them. Nor did David [Benioff] & Dan [Weiss]. There is no ‘deal’ to hold back on the books.”

George‘s most recent book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, was published in 2011.

HBO used the first five GOT books to create the series and were given an outline about how George planned to end the final two novels.
