Is George Stephanopoulos Vying for 'Jeopardy' Job? A New Report Says So

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, who has had a lengthy career as a journalist, democratic adviser, and former White House communications director for Bill Clinton, apparently wants to be the next Jeopardy host according to a new report!

He was first linked to the job back in May when he was asked if he’d ever want to do it. “I think it would be a lot of fun, but I like what I’m doing too,” he told THR. “I am not going to be Shermanesque about it. It’s a great show. It’s very flattering. Big shoes to fill.”

The Wrap is now reporting that a “highly placed person” said he “has his eye on the lucrative position and that his team was lobbying hard at ABC.” Jeopardy airs on ABC, where George currently works as a correspondent.

Alex Trebek tragically passed away this weekend after battling pancreatic cancer.

Donald Trump Retweets Fake Satire Story About Twitter Outage as Fact

The satirical website, The Babylon Bee, which jokingly describes itself as “”the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all its truth claims,” published an article titled “Twitter Shuts Down Entire Network to Slow Spread of Negative Biden News,” intended to make light of the network’s shutdown before their respective town halls.

Trump shared the article, writing: “Wow, this has never been done in history. This includes his really bad interview last night. Why is Twitter doing this. Bringing more attention to Sleepy Joe & Big T,” he captioned the post.

Twitter explained that the technical issues were “caused by an inadvertent change we made to our internal systems,” via Variety.

“Big T was not a reference to me, but rather to Big Tech, which should have been properly pointed out in Twitter’s Fake Trending Section!” he then wrote.

Trump also came after ABC host George Stephanopoulos, who moderated Biden’s town hall.

“Sleepy Joe Biden had a very bad showing last night, despite the fact that @GStephanopoulos didn’t ask him any questions on his being a ‘corrupt politician.’ Big Tech & Lamestream Media are working hard to hide this corruption!!!” he wrote.

Trump‘s own town hall host Savannah Guthrie got a different reaction on social media.

This Journalist Wouldn't Say No To Hosting Jeopardy! After Alex Trebek Retires

“The first thing I said was ‘George Stephanopoulos’ and everyone went, ‘That ain’t crazy,”’ Howard shared, while referencing a conversation he had about who could be the next host. “You’ve got the intellectual capacity.”

George admitted he wasn’t against the idea of it.

“I think it would be a lot of fun, but I like what I’m doing too,” he replied. “I am not going to be Shermanesque about it. It’s a great show … It’s very flattering. Big shoes to fill.”

Alex has spoken many times about his successor, recommending CNN analyst Laura Coates, LA Kings announcer Alex Faust and TCM host Ben Mankiewicz for the job.

George is currently quarantining at his home, after testing positive for coronavirus – just a few weeks after wife Ali Wentworth was diagnosed.
