Sara Bareilles Leads a Girl Group Comeback in 'Girls5eva' Trailer - Watch Now!

Sara Bareilles is heading to television in the new comedy series Girls5eva and Peacock just released the show’s first trailer!

In the new series, a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s gets sampled by a young rapper, so its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain, but can‘t they also be Girls5eva?

Also starring in the series are Busy Philipps, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, Ashley Park, and Erika Henningsen as the younger version of Paula’s character.

Tina Fey is among the executive producers and she actually has a connection to both Erika and Ashley. They starred in the Broadway musical version of her movie Mean Girls!

All eight episodes of Girls5eva will be available to stream on Peacock on May 6.

Busy Philipps Gets Animated While Filming 'Girls5Eva' Pilot with Sara Bareilles

Busy Philipps gets into character on the set of the Girls5Eva pilot on Thursday night (October 22) in New York City.

The 41-year-old actress got animated while filming a scene with her co-stars Sara Bareilles and Paula Pell. This marks the first time she’s been spotted on set for the upcoming Peacock series!

The new series “kicks off when a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot.”

Deadline reports that Busy will “star as Summer, the most bubbly, but least talented member of the group. Summer is now a Real Housewives reject in yoga pants living in a New Jersey McMansion.”

Among the executive producers on the project is Tina Fey!

Sara Bareilles & Renee Elise Goldsberry Kick Off Filming for 'Girls5Eva' Comedy Series with Tina Fey!

Sara Bareilles and Renee Elise Goldsberry share a hug while filming a scene for their upcoming comedy series Girls5Eva on Tuesday (October 20) in New York City.

The upcoming series is going to stream on the Peacock streaming service and it is being executive produced by Tina Fey, among others. She was spotted on set alongside the pilot’s director Kat Coiro.

In Girls5Eva, “when a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot.”

Sara is playing “Dawn, a former member of Girls5eva, who is now a bit restless in life managing her family’s small Italian restaurant in Queens. When the opportunity arises, Dawn reluctantly gets the band back together for a Girls5eva reunion and it might just be exactly what she needed.”

Renee is starring as “Wickie, the glamorous, big-voiced, star of the group back in the day. Wickie’s solo career hit a ditch, but she’s determined to use this new opportunity to retake her rightful place as pop royalty.”

In the scene, it looks like Wickie arrived at Dawn’s apartment with her suitcase in tow.

Also starring in the series are Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, and Ashley Park!

Sara Bareilles to Star in New Peacock Comedy Series Produced by Tina Fey!

Sara Bareilles is heading to television in the upcoming musical comedy series Girls5eva, which is being produced by Tina Fey!

The upcoming series will stream on the new service Peacock.

In the series, “when a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot,” Variety reports.

Sara will play “Dawn, a former member of Girls5eva, who is now a bit restless in life managing her family’s small Italian restaurant in Queens. When the opportunity arises, Dawn reluctantly gets the band back together for a Girls5eva reunion and it might just be exactly what she needed.”

The series will be written and executive produced by Meredith Scardino. Tina and her longtime producing partner Robert Carlock are also executive producers.

“It is a pinch me moment to get to cross paths creatively with women like Meredith Scardino and Tina Fey, who I have been a fan of forever,” Sara said in a statement. “I am a longtime admirer of so many of the characters they have brought to life in other projects, and I am already in love with the women at the center of Girls5eva. I am so excited to help bring to life what I know will be a smart, creative, hilarious show with a lot of heart.”

Sara previously starred in NBC’s live concert production of Jesus Christ Superstar and she acted on Broadway in the musical Waitress, for which she wrote the music. There’s another TV project that Sara is working on right now.
