Meghan Markle Cold Called Many Americans Encouraging Them To Vote

Meghan Markle has apparently been cold calling people around the country for months.

According to activist and icon Gloria Steinem, the 39-year-old Duchess of Sussex has been making it a point to encourage people to get out and vote in the upcoming elections.

“She has a stereotype hanging over her head, which is ‘princess,’” Gloria shared in a recent, virtual interview with Access Hollywood. “Meg is herself, smart, authentic, funny, political.”

She then opened up about one of Meghan‘s reasons for returning home to America – to vote.

“She came home to vote,” Gloria shared. “And the first thing we did, and why she came to see me… was we sat at the dining room table here, where I am right now, and cold-called voters. And said, ‘Hello, I’m Meg,’ and, ‘Hello, I’m Gloria,’ and, ‘Are you going to vote?’ And that was her initiative.”

Meghan and Gloria met earlier in the summer for a “backyard chat” in an initiative with the MAKERS Instagram account, where they discussed “representation, why each vote matters and how all women are linked, not ranked”.

When the election comes in November, Meghan will also be the first member of the British Royal Family to vote.

Meghan Markle Teams Up with Gloria Steinem to Discuss the Importance of Voting

Meghan Markle and Gloria Steinem are teaming up!

The 39-year-old Duchess of Sussex and the 86-year-old political activist sat down for a “historic backyard chat,” as captured by the MAKERS Women Instagram account.

During their chat, the two women sit outside to “discuss representation, why each vote matters and how all women ‘are linked, not ranked.’”

“Meg, welcome home,” Gloria said. “I’m so glad that you’re home.”

“Thank you,” Meghan, who just moved to Santa Barbara with husband Prince William and their 1-year-old son Archie, responded. “Me too, for so many reasons.”

Meghan and Gloria also spoke about the importance of women voting in the upcoming election.

“People forget how hard women like you and so many others before you fought for us to just be where we are right now,” Meghan said.

“If you don’t vote, you don’t exist,” Gloria replied. “It is the only place we’re all equal, the voting booth.”

“What worries me the most are young people, who I understand are the least likely to vote and I can understand the feeling that they don’t think they have an impact,” Gloria continued. “Yet, it’s more important for them to vote than anyone else because they’re going to be alive long after I am, and they’re going to be suffering the consequences.”

Meghan has been very vocal about the importance of voting, where she recently said, “we will make the difference in this election.ā€

Meghan and Gloria‘s full conversation will be released on Wednesday (August 26) – you can watch the preview here.

During the event, Matt opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about changing the direction of his career and said he had to “un-brand” himself from just starring in romantic comedies.

“I took off, and had an un-branding phase. Not a re-branding phrase, an un-branding phase,” Matt recalled after the birth of his son Levi in 2008. “I said, ‘Iā€™m out.’”

“That anonymity, that being away, that not being the shirtless guy on the beach in a rom-com, by un-branding, then all of a sudden things came to me that I had been wanting to do,” Matt added. “Dramatic roles that I had been pursuing were coming my way.”

Other stars in attendance included Trevor Noah, journalist Ronan Farrow, activist Gloria Steinem, Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, and tennis icon Billie Jean King.

Jane Fonda Gets Arrested For Fifth Time at Fire Drill Friday Protest Ahead of Her 82nd Birthday

Jane Fonda stands at the podium with a Happy Birthday sign during the “Fire Drill Fridays” climate change protest and rally on Capital Hill on Friday (December 20) in Washington, DC.

The Grace & Frankie actress led the protest for another week, on the eve of her 82nd birthday.

During the event, Jane was arrested for the fifth time. This follows her detainment at the beginning of November for the acts of civil disobedience that have been staged as part of the demonstrations.

If you are unfamiliar, the protests are designed to focus attention on the impact of human activity on the climate as well as the lack of government response to the crisis.

Jane has recruited several of her celeb friends to participate in the protests, and this week, Gloria Steinem stood by her side.
