The date announcement was revealed just after NBC made the decision to not air the Golden Globes on that night. The HFPA has been under fire from the industry after revealing their plans to diversify the organization.

Many have spoken out at HFPA, including several former Golden Globes winners. One even returned their trophies they had won.

While NBC might have chosen not to air the show, the HFPA revealed that it will not interfere with their plans.

A location and additional details for the 2022 Critics Choice Awards, which honor the best in cinematic and televised/streaming achievement, will be announced at a later date.

NBC Will Not Air Golden Globes in 2022 Amid HFPA Controversy

NBC has announced that the will not be airing the 2022 Golden Globes award ceremony, amid controversy over the HFPA’s practices.

The network has issued a statement about the decision via Variety:

“We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform. However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right,” it reads. “As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”

The decision comes after the HFPA revealed their plans for reform over the weekend.

However, many celebrities, organizations and big streaming services have called them out on doing the least amount to put any changes into affect.

HFPA Commits to Adding At Least 13 Black Members By Next Golden Globes

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is the organization behind the Golden Globes, has committed to adding at least 13 Black members to the group ahead of next year’s ceremony.

The organization currently has 87 members and they plan on increasing the membership total to a minimum of 100 members by next year, with at least 13 percent of those members being Black journalists.

The statement was issued after more than 100 PR firms representing nearly all of Hollywood’s talent released an open letter demanding “transformational change” within the HFPA.

The organization said, via THR, “As a demonstration of our commitment, the board has unanimously approved a plan to increase membership to a minimum of 100 members this year, with a requirement that at least 13 percent of the membership be Black journalists.”

Hollywood Publicists Will Withhold Celebrity Clients from Golden Globes Events Until HFPA Has 'Transformational Change'

Publicists from more than 100 firms that represent nearly all of the talent in Hollywood have sent a letter to the HFPA to demand “transformational change” within the organization.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is the organization behind the Golden Globes, has been in turmoil ever since it was revealed a few weeks ago that there are zero Black members in the 87-person group.

The publicists in Hollywood say that they will not advocate for their clients to attend any events associated with the HFPA until has change.

“We cannot advocate for our clients to participate in HFPA events or interviews as we await your explicit plans and timeline for transformational change,” the message read.
