Hit Songs That the Artists Now Regret

Everyone has their special fuzzy memories of their favorite smashes over the years – but now and then, the artists themselves don’t exactly feel the same way about their own music.

Over time, plenty of different pop stars and singer-songwriters have spoken out following the smash success of their songs to reveal that, for one reason or another, they feel awkward, embarrassed or even ashamed about certain songs.

In some cases, it comes down to the lyrical content. And in others, it’s all due to the song’s complete over-saturation of the market. Regardless, these stars have enough distance between the song’s release and now to reflect on the choices they made.

We’ve gathered together some of the biggest hits from the likes of everyone from Taylor Swift to Radiohead, and how the artists really feel about the songs. Some of these are bound to surprise you!

Hayley Williams Went to Rehab After Divorce from Chad Gilbert

Hayley Williams, the former lead singer of Paramore, is opening up about her divorce from husband Chad Gilbert and why she went to rehab.

The 31-year-old singer said that the stress from the breakup led her to having “f–ked up” dreams and those led to panic attacks.

“They’re pretty f–ked. There’s often water in my dreams. I’ve always written about relationships using water metaphors. My most memorable recurring dreams from childhood are all water related,” Hayley told Vulture. “I started to have a lot of those again. It resulted in me having panic attacks, and I ended up in a hospital. I’d faint.”

Hayley and Chad, known for being part of the band New Found Glory, announced their separation in 2017 and she later checked into a facility to deal with the stress.

“It’s been a slow lesson for me — how much power our emotions have on our physical health. It started to happen because I was in denial,” she told the outlet. “I found a facility where I could go and be in a safe group or by myself and talk… Talk therapy has been more important for me than medicine.”

Hayley realizes now that she shouldn’t have married Chad, but she knows why she did it.

“I went through with the marriage because I had a lot of shame about mistakes I’d made. I got into that relationship prematurely. He was not divorced [from his previous wife] yet. I was very lonely,” she said.

“I was at the lowest point I’d been in some time. My sadness shows. Now I look back and credit this night as being the beginning of a new season of my life, where I hold myself accountable for learning to love better. I’ve let myself down a lot in love. This was the start of recognizing bad patterns and acknowledging that I’m ready to grow out of them,” Hayley says of recording the song.

The track will appear on her debut solo album Petals for Armor, due out on May 8.

Hayley Williams Releases Music Video for New Song 'Simmer' - Watch!

Hayley will be dropping her debut solo album, titled Petals for Armor, on May 8.

“I’m so ready and so incredibly humbled to get to share this project,” Hayley shared in a statement about her new album. “Making it was a scary, empowering experience. Some of my proudest moments as a lyricist happened while writing ‘PETALS FOR ARMOR.’ And I was able to get my hands a little dirtier than usual when it came to instrumentation. I’m in a band with my favorite musicians so I never really feel the need to step into a role as a player when it comes to Paramore records. This project, however, benefited from a little bit of musical naïveté and rawness and so I experimented quite a bit more. I made this with some of the closest people to me. Their respective talents really shine bright throughout the record. I like to think we all make each other better and the result is something that sounds and FEELS exactly as I’d hoped it would. Now that it’s time to put it all out there, I can finally exhale. I’m excited to let people in to experience a different side of myself that I’ve only very recently become familiar with.”
