HBO's 'The Nevers' Gets First Trailer & April Premiere Date

Rochelle Neil shows off her firestarter skills as Annie “Bonfire” Carby in the first trailer for HBO’s The Nevers.

The Regency-set series is set in August of 1896, where Victorian London is rocked to its foundations by a supernatural event which gives certain people – mostly women – abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing.

But no matter their particular “turns,” all who belong to this new underclass are in grave danger.

It falls to mysterious, quick-fisted widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and brilliant young inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) to protect and shelter these gifted “orphans.”

To do so, they will have to face the brutal forces determined to annihilate their kind.

The rest of the cast includes Olivia Williams as Lavinia Bidlow; James Norton as Hugo Swann; Tom Riley as Augustus “Augie” Bidlow; Pip Torrens as Lord Gilbert Massen; Ben Chaplin as Inspector Frank Mundi; Denis O’Hare as Edmund Hague; Amy Manson as Maladie; Zackary Momoh as physician Horatio Cousens; Eleanor Tomlinson as Mary Brighton; Elizabeth Berrington as Lucy Best; Anna Devlin as Primrose Chattoway; Kiran Sonia Sawar (“HBO Max’s Pure”) as Harriet Kaur; Viola Prettejohn as Myrtle Haplisch; Ella Smith as Désireé Blodgett; Vinnie Heaven as Nimble Jack; and Nick Frost as Declan “Beggar King” Orrun.

Matthew McConaughey to Reprise the Role That Kicked Off His Career!

Matthew McConaughey is taking on the role that helped to propel his career!

The 51-year-old actor is set to star in HBO’s limited series A Time for Mercy, the sequel to the classic John Grisham novel A Time To Kill, Deadline reported on Thursday (March 18).

25 years ago, Matthew starred in A Time To Kill in the role of defense attorney, Jake Brigance.

According to the report, the series would be 8-10 episodes with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who was a Warner Bros. executive when A Time to Kill was greenlit in the 1990s, to produce.

Here’s more on the story: “The original novel was set in Clanton, Mississippi and followed a fearless young lawyer as he defends a black man accused of murdering two white men who raped his ten-year-old daughter. The case turned the small town into a boilerplate of tension that includes the inciting violent retribution and revenge from the Ku Klux Klan. The novel was another Grisham hit and Warner Bros. quickly moved to turn the book into a movie, tapping the late Joel Schumacher to direct and setting an A-list cast to star in the film.”

The film is considered to be one that put Matthew on the map in Hollywood, who was a relative unknown at the time.

Here’s a plot summary for A Time For Mercy: “Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid sixteen-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Brigance’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career and the safety of his family on the line.”

A Time For Mercy is the third book to feature the Brigance character, following Sycamore Row, which was released in 2013.

“There was never a discussion to adapt that book but when Grisham made it be known that a third Brigance novel was on its way in 2020, McConaughey was drawn to the idea of returning to the role that helped launch his career,” the outlet reported.

“As for the decision to go the limited series route rather then make it into a film, the decision was made to allow the whole story to unfold and dive deeper into all the characters involved in the book rather then cut corners in a two hour movie.”

No director is attached to the project yet, nor any writers. A production start time is still to be determined.

Matthew also teased the possibility of doing this next in his career.

Steve Toussaint (Pine Gap), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill), Eve Best (Nurse Jackie) and Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina) are all joining the prequel alongside previously announced stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith.

The show is set a few hundred years prior to the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war that became known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

Here’s more about the characters: “Toussaint will star as Lord Corlys Velaryon, ‘The Sea Snake.’ Lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen. As ‘The Sea Snake,’ the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros, Lord Corlys built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world.”

Ifans will play Otto Hightower. The Hand of the King, Ser Otto loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king’s brother, Daemon (Smith), and his position as heir to the throne.

Best will appeare as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. A dragonrider and wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, ‘The Queen Who Never Was’ was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favored her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male.”

Mizuno joins as Mysaria. She came to Westeros with nothing, sold more times than she can recall. She could have wilted… but instead she rose to become the most trusted — and most unlikely — ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.”

HBO has given the show a 10-episode order with a planned 2022 debut. Find out about another show the creators are working on!
