HBO Announces They Have Their Own GameStop Film in Development

HBO is developing a new film based on the GameStop Reddit controversy that took over the headlines last week.

The network announced their plans via Variety, with executive producers Andrew Ross Sorkin of TBTF Productions, Len Amato of Crash&Salvage, and Jason Blum of Blumhouse Television.

HBO’s movie will focus on “how a populist uprising of social media day traders beat Wall Street at their own game, turning the stock market upside down and shaking the financial world to its core.”

If you didn’t see what was happening, over the past six months, GameStop’s stock has risen 8,000 percent. The “stock has become the central game piece in a financial power struggle between a major hedge fund, Melvin Capital, and a group of amateur stock traders” on Reddit.

Wall Street titans were betting that the stock would fail and a group of people on Reddit came together to make sure that did not happen. Social media star David Dobrik was one of those investors.

This isn’t the first project planned based on the GameStop story. Noah Centineo is set to star in a Netflix series based on it.

Just last year, GameStop was in the news, but for a much different reason.

Secret Woody Allen Documentary Series Coming to HBO - Watch the Trailer

A new documentary about Woody Allen is coming to HBO.

Ronan Farrow, Dylan Farrow, and Mia Farrow all participated in Allen v. Farrow, which is promising to go “behind decades of sensational headlines to reveal the private story of one of Hollywood’s most notorious and public scandals: the accusation of sexual abuse against Woody Allen involving Dylan, his then 7-year-old daughter with Mia Farrow,” THR reported Friday (February 5).

The film was directed by Oscar-nominated documentarians Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering, and chronicles the former couple’s subsequent custody trial and the revelation of his relationship with her daughter, Soon-Yi Previn.

HBO will debut the first episode on February 21 at 9 p.m., with new episodes airing on subsequent Sundays at the same time.

The series was shot in secret, and features “investigative work pieced together via intimate home movie footage, court documents, police evidence, revelatory videotape and never-before-heard audio tapes.” There are also in-depth interviews on the subject with Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow, Ronan Farrow, family friend Carly Simon, prosecutor Frank Maco, relatives, investigators, experts and other first-hand eyewitnesses, with many of them speaking publicly about the events for the first time.

An actress just came forward to say she regrets working with Woody Allen.

'Insecure' Is Coming to an End at HBO With Season 5

Insecure is coming to an end.

The Issa Rae-helmed acclaimed HBO series will end with its upcoming fifth season, the network confirmed Wednesday (January 13).

Issa Rae

Prentice [Penny] and I are so grateful that HBO believed in our show from the beginning and kept faith in us to see our vision through the end. We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience,” Issa told Deadline.

“I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least.”

The fifth season is expected to go into production later this month, and will star Issa, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales and Alexander Hodge. It will arrive sometime later in 2021.

The show was based on Issa’s online series Awkward Black Girl, and followed her as she navigated love, life and friendship.
