Helena Bonham Carter Speaks Out About 'The Crown's Fact Vs. Fiction Controversy

Helena Bonham Carter is weighing on the controversy surrounding The Crown.

Earlier this month, Princess Diana‘s brother, Earl Spencer, called out the program after seeing the depiction of his sister on the Netflix show.

British politician Oliver Dowden, who serves as the U.K.’s Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, also spoke out about the hit show, and urged Netflix to put a disclaimer before episodes of The Crown to tell viewers that the series is a fictionalization and they should not take the show for absolute truth.

“It’s a beautifully produced work of fiction, so as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that,” Mr. Dowden shared in a recent interview. “Without this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.”

Helena, who played Princess Margaret in seasons three and four, is now speaking out and supporting the concerns.

“It is dramatized,” she stated. “I do feel very strongly, because I think we have a moral responsibility to say, ‘Hang on, guys, this is not…it’s not a drama-doc, we’re making a drama.’ So they are two different entities.”

Helena did add though that the research that series creator Peter Morgan does before each season is impressive.

“That is amazing, and then Peter switches things up and juggles,” she adds.

The bulk of season four concentrated on Prince Charles and Princess Diana, as well as Charles’ alleged affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

This isn’t the first time the show has been called out by someone. Find out what happened just last month…

Helena Bonham Carter Reveals How She Met Her Boyfriend Rye Dag Holmboe

Helena Bonham Carter rarely talks about her relationship with boyfriend Rye Dag Holmboe, but she just made some rare comments about him!

The 54-year-old actress previously defended the 21-year age gap between the two of them in an interview last year.

Helena plays Princess Margaret on The Crown and she compared her own relationship to Margaret’s relationship with Roddy Llewellyn, who was 17 years younger than her.

“It was odd timing that I seem to have a similar age gap as her, she said,” Helena told The Times last year. “Everybody ages at a different rate. My boyfriend is unbelievably mature. He’s an old soul in a young body, what more could I want?”

Now, Helena is opening up about how she met her man.

Helena Bonham Carter Speaks Out About Johnny Depp Ahead of His Libel Case Ruling

Helena Bonham Carter is speaking out ahead of her friend Johnny Depp‘s libel case ruling.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor took the British newspaper The Sun to court after he was called a “wife beater” in connection to claims made by his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Back in July, Johnny and Amber were in court for weeks during the trial and now the ruling in the case will be revealed on Monday.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Helena said, “There’s something quite old-fashioned about Johnny, with these manners – none of it makes sense. But the man’s not stupid. He wouldn’t have gone to this length if he thought he was in the wrong.”

Some of the movies that Helena and Johnny did together include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, and The Lone Ranger.

A very famous singer spoke out with support for Johnny just a couple weeks ago.
