Taraji P. Henson is pretty in pink while posing backstage at the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon (February 23) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The 48-year-old Empire actress skipped the carpet, but she made an appearance at the end of the show to present one of the final awards. It’s possible that she wanted to avoid questions about her co-star Jussie Smollett.

Taraji presented the award for Best Male Lead, which went to First Reformed‘s Ethan Hawke.

Amanda Seyfried is all smiles while accepting Ethan Hawke‘s award on his behalf at the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon (February 23) in Santa Monica, Calif.

Ethan won the award for Best Male Lead for his work in First Reformed, but he couldn’t make it to the show. Amanda, who was his co-star in the film, read a speech that he prepared.

First Reformed was also nominated for Best Feature and both Best Director and Best Screenplay for Paul Schrader.

Daveed Diggs walks the red carpet with his two dates at the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon (February 23) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The 37-year-old actor was joined by his girlfriend Emmy Raver-Lampman on the left and his Blindspotting co-star Janina Gavankar on the right.

Daveed was nominated for Best Male Lead for his work in the indie film.

Emmy is currently starring on the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy and she got her big break while playing Angelica in the first national tour of Hamilton. Daveed won the Tony for his work in Hamilton on Broadway.

Glenn Close accepts her award with help from her dog Pip at the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon (February 23) in Santa Monica, Calif.

The 71-year-old actress won the award for Best Female Lead for her work in The Wife, but her dog won the spotlight during the speech!

Pip rolled around on stage while Glenn spoke. “I brought him up for this very reason,” she said. “It’s called ‘in the moment.’”

On winning the award, Glenn said, “It’s really, really only ever about the work, no matter what you’re wearing, no matter what red carpet you walk on. The fact that we get together and we tell these stories that really make a difference in the world — that is what we do.”
