Zooey Deschanel has added her last name to her kids’ legal last names as part of her divorce settlement with Jacob Pechenik.

In documents obtained by The Blast, the 40-year-old actress and her ex-husband’s divorce settlement includes a provision to add “Deschanel” to four-year-old daughter Elsie and three-year-old son Charlie‘s legal names to make it easier when Zooey travels with them.

The children’s legal names will be changed Elsie Otter Deschanel Pechenik and Charlie Wolf Deschanel Pechenik.

According to the divorce settlement, “The children’s last names shall always be Pechenik, and Deschanel shall be a middle name only and used only on documents. This is done to facilitate the joint custody that the parties are sharing and to alleviate any legal confusion when the mother is traveling with the children.”

Zooey and Jacob first split back in September 2019 after four years of marriage. Jacob officially filed for divorce in December.

Zooey has been dating Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott for the past several months. She recently threw him a Game of Thrones-inspired murder mystery party for his birthday!

The 47-year-old film producer filed for divorce from the 39-year-old New Girl actress on Tuesday (October 22) after four years of marriage, The Blast reports.

According to the paperwork obtained by the site, Jacob is asking for joint physical and legal custody of their two children – Elsie, 4, and Charlie, 2.

Jacob is also saying support should be paid to both parties, indicating that he and Zooey had a prenup. He is also asking for him and Zooey to split attorney feeds.

Back in September, Zooey and Jacob announced that they were splitting.

Zooey is now dating Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott.

Zooey Deschanel‘s ex-husband Jacob Pechenik is speaking out after news broke of her new relationship with Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott.

The 47-year-old film producer seems to be doing well, noting that their split was amicable.

“Yeah, everything is amicable and we have two beautiful children together. We’ve been raising them and we’re going to continue to raise them, and take great care of get them…I’m happy,” Jacob told HollywoodLife.

He added that he will continue to work with Zooey on their company, Lettuce Grow, which aims to change America’s food supply chain and educate consumers about where their food comes from.

“[Zooey and I] haven’t had so many differences when it comes to the business, we both know what our strengths and weaknesses are and turn to each other for suggestions or advice on the other person’s expertise,” Jacob explained.

Zooey and Jacob got engaged back in January of 2015, and got married in June later that year. They have two children together: Elsie, 4, and Charlie, 2.

The 39-year-old actress and the 47-year-old film producer have split after over four years of marriage, a rep for the couple confirmed in a statement to Just Jared on Friday (September 6).

“After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners. We remain committed to our business, our values, and most of all, our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this time,” the couple said.

The two first got engaged back in January of 2015, and got married in June later that year. They have two children together: Elsie, 4, and Charlie, 2.

The duo stepped out for NeueHouse’s Creative Couples series on Wednesday night (June 12) at NeueHouse in Hollywood.

During the event, Zooey and Jacob talked their business venture, the Farm Project, which they hope to use to “reconnect people with their food.”

They also discussed their collaborative values and journey, their commitment to sustainable farming and screened an episode of ATTN:’s hit show, Your Food’s Roots.

What do they need?’ That’s my first thought when I wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night. I’m always thinking of them,” Zooey told Us Weekly. “I’ve changed completely. You don’t realize what a sort of selfish existence you live in until you have kids.”
