'The Right Stuff' Becomes First Scripted Series To Be Cancelled By Disney+

The Right Stuff didn’t have the right stuff.

The series, based on Mercury 7 astronauts, is the first scripted series to be cancelled by Disney+, according to Deadline.

Produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, The Right Stuff starred Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman, Colin O’Donoghue, Aaron Staton, James Lafferty, Micah Stock, and Michael Trotter.

The show centered on the Mercury 7 who were America’s first test pilots for the rockets headed to space.

The Right Stuff started its run on National Geographic before launching as a Disney+ original, and Deadline says that there are plans to shop the series elsewhere.

TNT and HBO Max are being considered to host the show for a second season.

Patrick, who played John Glenn in the series, recently opened up about the pressure of playing a legend.

Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman & James Lafferty Mask Up For 'The Right Stuff' Premiere

Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman and James Lafferty all step out for the premiere of their new Disney+ series, The Right Stuff, held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., on Monday (October 5).

The three actors masked up for the event, where they were joined by their co-stars Eloise Mumford, Shannon Lucio, Nora Zehetner, Micah Stock, and Patrick Fischler.

In a recent interview, Patrick opened up about how he almost wrote to Annie Glenn while he was researching to play her husband, John Glenn, in the groundbreaking series. But, he didn’t.

“I wrote, like, about six different letters on my computer but every time it came down to send one I thought, ‘I think it’s best to just leave Annie Glenn,’ to have what ended up being her final year in peace,” he shared with ET Canada. “So I hope we did it justice and I hope somewhere they are looking down and that she looks positively on it, but I thought it best to leave her be.”

Patrick also revealed that while he had hopes of going to space, being an astronaut wasn’t a real dream for him.

“I always dreamed of going to space, but certainly never felt like I had what it took. I didn’t have ‘the right stuff,’ so to speak, to get up there,” he said.

The Right Stuff premieres on Friday, October 9 on Disney+.

If you missed it, James just announced some big news in his personal life!

Nat Geo Releases First Look at 'The Right Stuff' Series; To Debut on Disney+ This Fall

The first look at Nat Geo’s upcoming space series, The Right Stuff, has been released.

The upcoming show is produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and stars Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman, Colin O’Donoghue, Aaron Staton, James Lafferty, Micah Stock, and Michael Trotter.

Here’s the official summary: At the height of the Cold War in 1959, the Soviet Union dominates the space race. To combat a national sentiment of fear and decline, the U.S. government conceives of NASA’s Project Mercury, igniting a space race with the Soviets and making instant celebrities of a handful of the military’s most accomplished test pilots.

These individuals, who come to be known as the Mercury Seven, are forged into heroes long before they have achieved a single heroic act. The nation’s best engineers estimate they need several decades to make it into outer space. They are given two years.

The Right Stuff, based on Tom Wolfe book of the same name, is set to premiere on Disney+ this fall.
