'Supernatural' Creator Talks About the Ending He Would Have Given the Show

Eric Kripke, the creator of the beloved The CW series Supernatural, is opening up about the show’s series finale.

If you didn’t know, Kripke originally developed the series for just three seasons and then expanded it to five seasons following the success of the show. He departed as showrunner after season five and the series continued for a whopping ten more seasons.

Eric told Entertainment Weekly that he had a long talk with series star Jensen Ackles and co-showrunners Andrew Dabb and Bob Singer about the ending.

“It was interesting, they pitched it to me and I went off to think about it for a couple days, and admittedly, me being me, I spent some time thinking, ‘Okay, is there any other ending I would pitch back that I think is better?’” Eric said. “And I spent a couple days trying to chase down a couple avenues and couldn’t come up with anything better. So I went back and I was like, ‘Guys I think it’s the right one.’ There’s some substance to it but there’s something emotional, I think there’s a positive energy around it.”

Eric was asked about how he would’ve ended things and he doesn’t think fans would’ve been happy.

“But I can assure the fans that my ending was so much darker than the ending they’re going with, so anyone who’s like, ‘Kripke should’ve ended it,’ I’m like, ‘You would’ve hated my ending!,’” he said. “Because it was a horror movie and it was going to have a horror movie ending, so I can promise you the ending [they went with] you’ll love much more than if you had let me end the show.”

Fans were not happy about a moment that was left out of the series finale, which they were hoping to see.

The CW Has Released 9 Photos from the 'Supernatural' Series Finale & We're Already Emotional

The series finale of Supernatural will be airing in just a few days and The CW has released some photos from the last episode ever.

It has been over 15 years since the series began and “Carry On” will mark the 327th and final episode of the beloved show, which stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles.

Co-showrunner Andrew Dabb previously told TVLine that a “big chunk of our mythology” was wrapped up in last week’s episode.

The series finale “is more character-based and is more concerned with Sam, Dean and this family they’ve built around them than it is with figuring out the Case of the Week.”

Dabb added, “Sam and Dean started this journey together, and they are ending this journey together. Do they end it in the same place? Do they end it in the same way? Are they both on the same page when it ends? That remains to be seen in the last episode. But the show started about these two guys, and it ends about these two guys.”

You can catch the final episode of Supernatural on Thursday (November 19) at 9/8c on The CW.

Supernatural actor Misha Collins just confirmed something that happened to his character Castiel in his final episode.

'Destiel' Trends After 'Supernatural' Character Reveals He's Gay, Then Dies

SPOILER ALERT – This post contains spoilers from the latest episode of Supernatural, so stop reading now if you don’t want to know what happened.

Supernatural‘s final season is currently airing and in episode 1518, which was titled “Despair,” something happened that has fans very upset.

Misha Collins‘ character Castiel was killed off the show after confessing his love for Dean, who is played by Jensen Ackles.

To quickly summarize the plot for those who don’t watch, Castiel made a deal with The Entity to allow him to live his life until the moment he’s truly happy. While being faced with the possibility of being killed alongside Dean, Castiel takes his own life by revealing his true feelings for Dean and ultimately reaching that moment of happiness.

Cas told Dean, “I never found an answer because the one thing I want is something I know I can’t have. But I think I know now happiness isn’t in the having. It’s in just being. Knowing you has changed me. Because you cared, I cared. I cared about the whole world because of you. You changed me, Dean.”

Dean asked Cas why it sounded like a goodbye and he replied, “It is. I love you. Goodbye, Dean.”

Fans are upset with this new development because Castiel’s feelings for Dean were never revealed until this moment, but now this storyline won’t be explored. The general consensus is that Castiel revealed he’s gay in this moment, but there are some fans who think he just loved Dean as a best friend. People are also debating if #Destiel is actually “canon,” which means that it actually happened in the fictional universe of the story, unlike fan fiction.

The series finale of Supernatural will air on November 19.

The show was set to finish filming back in March, but the pandemic forced the team to shut production with two episodes left to film, five more in post-production. The final seven episodes will premiere on October 8 – but the stars are already getting emotional with their goodbyes.

“Woke up at 6am this morning. That alarm went off with a heavy tone. Today is the final day of a 15 year journey. One that has changed my life forever. To those I have worked with on this journey and to those who have watched and supported…you will never understand my great appreciation for you,” Jensen wrote on his Instagram.

“‘Thank you’ doesn’t cover it. There just aren’t words. I’m so grateful for these memories that I will carry with me forever. What a ride it has been. And what a run. #spnfamilyforever here are a few shots from our final days…including today. I’ll try and send more later, but in true SPN form…we are in the middle of “nowhere” and have zero service. Go figure. Stay tuned.”

“Well, here goes…I write this as I head to my last day of #Supernatural. My last day with #SamWinchester. Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock,” Jared wrote on his Instagram.

“Thank y’all SO MUCH for the incredible amount of love and support that’s been headed our way, in these final hours. It’s definitely been felt. I’ll check in soon, but, for now, #WeHaveWorkToDo #spnfamily.”

Misha also added his goodbye on Twitter: “#ThankYouSupernatural. You’ve changed my life in so many ways and you changed the world for the better. Fight on,” he wrote.
