Jason Aldean Opens Up About Coping After Las Vegas Shooting

Jason Aldean is getting candid about the trauma he experienced after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in 2017 in Las Vegas.

The 42-year-old country singer stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday (December 12).

“It’s obviously something that I wouldn’t wish on anybody,” he told host Kelly Clarkson. “I think for us going back to Vegas was something we wanted to do the right way. We didn’t want to go in and try to do it too soon.”

“We felt like there was going to be a lot of people at our show that probably hadn’t been to one of our shows, maybe hadn’t been to a concert at all since that show,” he continued. “If they were going to come back out and that was part of the healing process for them.”

“We wanted to make it a safer environment, something to make them feel safer,” he added about his recent show. “We did Park MGM, a little 5,000 seat arena. The other one was outside, 30,000-40,000 people or whatever it was. This was a little smaller, little more intimate where people can come and hopefully, feel a little more at ease, hopefully, help some of them.”

“We had to get on stage the next week and try to get through all of it,” he recalled about continuing his tour after the shooting. “It was rough, the best thing for me was the fact that my wife was there and went through it, my band was there and went through it, my crew, everybody. We kind of leaned on each other and talked through it, nobody kept it bottled up. If you had a breakdown, you kind of had it in front of everybody and everybody knew what was going on.”

“My wife, we could talk and understood what was going on because she was there,” Jason Aldean shared. “To me that helped more than anything. We’re on the other side of it now. We’re part of the Route 91 family now, so it’s a cool group.”

Upon its release, the latest record from the 42-year-old country singer-songwriter immediately launched to No. 1 on the iTunes Album Chart on Friday (November 22).

“In this day and age everybody is not cutting full-length albums anymore. It’s trending more towards these EPs and that’s just not the way I want to make music,” Jason told Billboard of the new album.

The album includes tracks like the lead single, “We Back.”

“I feel like we needed [more up] tempo just because the last couple of albums, I felt like things were a little more on the laid back side with songs like ‘Drowns The Whiskey,’ ‘Any Ol’ Barstool’ and ‘You Make It Easy’…the big up tempos are such a big part of my career and live shows, I just felt like it was time. We had a new album coming out and we needed to bring back some energy and I feel like that’s a good way to kick off an album.”

“As an actress, you’re not always taken seriously as a singer. You can’t always cross over, whether it’s drama to comedy or an actress to musician. I can’t even believe it’s happening. I really, really can’t. It’s been a gift on top of a gift. It’s one of those bucket list moments you didn’t think would actually happen. Standing on stage with five incredible women who are brilliant vocalists and artists is beyond thrilling,” Chrissy told The Tennessean.

The Academy Of Country Music Awards airs on April 7th at 8 PM.
