Richard Gilliland has sadly passed away.
The actor, who was married to Jean Smart, died at the age of 71-years-old back on Thursday, March 18 in Los Angeles following a brief illness, his family confirmed in a statement to USA Today on Thursday (March 25).
As of right now, no other details have been released.
Richard is best known for his role on the ’80s sitcom Designing Women, where he played baseball talent scout J.D. Shackelford, the boyfriend of Annie Potts‘ character Mary Jo Shively.
While appearing on Designing Women, Richard met his future wife Jean, who played Charlene Frazier-Stillfield.
Richard and Jean married in 1987 and share two kids, Connor and Bonnie.
Shortly after news of Richard‘s death broke, Annie took to Instagram to remember her late co-star.
“Sweet Richard. You are missed already. Please say hello to Dixie and Hal, Meschach and Alice. Table read Monday. 😘😘 Love, Annie,” Annie wrote along with a photo of herself with Richard and Jean.
