Jeannie Mai Reveals Why She Didn't Invite Her 'The Real' Co-Hosts to Her Wedding

Jeannie Mai is dishing on her wedding.

Back in late March, the 42-year-old The Real co-host married rapper Jeezy at their home in Atlanta.

In a video posted on her YouTube channel, Jeannie opened up about her intimate and “COVID-safe wedding.”

“So we had a very COVID-safe wedding in our home. Which means, I mean…literally just a couple…there were two tables in our living room of our closest, closest family and friends,” Jeannie shared. “People I grew up with. People that had to know me and [Jeezy].”

“J made my list, and I made his list,” she continued. “And we were very firm on, because of COVID, you’re not supposed to be throwing events right now. You’re not supposed to be putting anybody in risk. So, with our family, we said ‘we are only going to invite our close family and people who know us both.’”

Because of the COVID safety restrictions, Jeannie wasn’t able to invite her The Real co-hosts Adrienne Bailon, Garcelle Beauvais, and Loni Love to the wedding.

“So, no. I didn’t invite the ladies,” Jeannie added. “But, I did call them all ahead of time to let them know that we were doing this. They were actually the first to know that we were having a secret ceremony, and they kept their secret.”

“We were really looking forward to having all of our friends and family there to celebrate. But we had to change all of our wedding plans due to COVID. After Jeezy‘s mother unexpectedly passed, we quickly learned that life is too short. And at the end of the day, Jeezy and I really just wanted to become husband and wife. So we decided to turn our original wedding into a mini-mony, where we exchanged our vows in front of our immediate family and a few close friends,” Jeannie told the outlet.

Jeannie wore a custom nude Galia Lahav gown with a sheer bodice and chiffon skirt, with matching nude appliqués applied by hand to the dress, plus a handmade headpiece and a 15-foot Galia Lahav veil.

Jeezy matched with a champagne blush Teofilo Flor suit. Guests were asked to wear off white to signify “peace in their union.”

They also participated in a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony that honored their parents. They later danced with friends and family at their reception and after party.

The two began dating in late 2018 after meeting on the set of her daytime talk show, but didn’t go public with their romance until August of 2019. Congratulations to the couple!

The 41-year-old talk show host revealed earlier today that she was forced to drop out of the competition after being hospitalized with a serious condition.

As the show started tonight (November 2), Jeannie shared a pic from the hospital where she currently is.

“I would never imagine ever having to write this, but I made it safely out of my emergency surgery,” Jeannie told her fans, as she was surrounded by a few balloons in her room. “I will be forever grateful to Dr. Nasseri who identified my potentially life-threatening condition.”

She adds, “What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of 3 days.”

“Although I am grateful to be recovering safely, I can’t lie… I am devastated by the fact that my journey with #DWTS will end this way 🥺😞 Dancing on this show has been the most exhilarating adventure. I’ve gained both beautiful friendships and loving supporters.”

Jeannie also shared a sweet note to her partner, Brandon Armstrong: “I’m sorry you don’t get to make fun of my moves anymore while I share my life gems on how to be a grown up🤭🤪 Love u so much lil bro, and will ALWAYS cherish the memories we made!!!”

Jeannie revealed earlier today that she had been diagnosed with epiglottis, which is a potentially life-threatening inflammatory condition that can cause swelling and block airflow to the lungs.

“I think a lot of women need to hear — and not saying it is right for you, but you also need to understand — when you give power to somebody, that’s also a power move itself. He is not going to have power if I don’t give that to him,” she explained.

“I have that power to be able to share that with him. To say, ‘I want you to lead. I want you to do what you do well as a man that I am trusting you to do. Take in my thoughts, my wishes, my dreams and then compute that into a vision for us that I can feel safe and secure knowing that you can lead us,’” she continued.

“By the way, he wouldn’t have that if I wasn’t a powerful woman to be able to give him that. I just want women to remind themselves that you are the powerful being and a big part of the picture if you are able to do that in your household. There’s a beautiful dance that can come out of it, and it’s no different than what Brandon [Armstrong] and I do every week on the dance floor. If I don’t give him the ability to lead me, you are not going to see what you saw tonight.”

Here’s what she originally said that caused some debate and conversation online.

Jeannie Mai Says She'll 'Submit' to Fiance Jeezy When They Get Married

Jeannie Mai is opening up about her relationship with Jeezy.

During the Wednesday (October 7) episode of her show The Real, the 41-year-old talk show host said she plans on being submissive in her marriage.

“I want to submit to my man. When I hear this definition…submitting has a negative connotation,” Jeannie explained. “It means that you are less important, you are lower than that person that you’re submitting to. It usually can be like, you know, referenced as somebody who works lower than you, and that’s not what I’m referring to here.”

“I’m a very dominant woman. I own my business, I lead my teams, I played my own manager, my own publicist, my own lawyer when I didn’t have money to have those people,” Jeannie continued. “So, I make the decisions in my life…When I come home, I like the idea that my man leads us.”

Jeannie went on to explain that this doesn’t mean she’ll have to ask the 43-year-old rapper for permission, but rather she wants him to take the lead.

“That doesn’t mean that in this case Jay makes all the decisions for us. That doesn’t mean that when he says, ‘How are we spending our money?’ or ‘Where are we moving?’ that I just say, ‘Yes sir,’ or ‘Yes, your honor.’ It’s not that,” Jeannie said. “It’s a, ‘You know what? I think that we would do best here, I want to do this,’ and he takes the decision, he formulates it with our overall vision, and he leads us and I like to submit to that.”

Jeannie went on, “I don’t want to lead in our household and in our marriage. I want him to lead, and I have all the essence of what I bring as a wife to make that decision, but I love that my husband will be the man that leads.”

Jeannie said she came to this realization because “it’s tiring being the boss of me,” adding, “It’s tiring leading all the time in my life.”

The 41-year-old The Real co-host announced that she and Jeezy are engaged.

The 42-year-old rapper proposed to Jeannie back on Friday, March 27 during a romantic night at home in Los Angeles.

Jeezy originally planned on proposing to Jeannie later in April during a planned trip to Vietnam, but due to restricted travel from the ongoing health pandemic, he popped the question at home instead.

“Jeannie and Jay were set for a trip to Vietnam this April. What Jeannie didn’t know is that Jay was planning to propose,” Jeannie‘s rep shared with People. “Instead, Jay decided to bring Vietnam to Jeannie with a surprise quarantine date night in his home filled with Vietnamese food and decor.”

Jeannie and Jeezy first met when he made an appearance on The Real back in 2018. They started quietly dating a few months later, and went public in August 2019.
